Hi guys my 18 plate ZZR14 is only really used for the odd weekend and has now racked up 3700 miles. The rear is gone and I want to swap out the front which seems to have 50% left in it (I usually swap them as a pair then ebay the front as a part worn). The bike is running stock BT 023's and they suit my riding needs for limited touring of around 1000 miles a year.
I'm half tempted to just throw another set on but I wondered if anyone has had similar experience and gone for something different? I don't want a super grippy race style band that will last 1500 miles but am looking for something in-between. The zed is big n heavy and the torque dramatically increases wear but other than that I cannot find fault in the bike as an all rounder. Any suggestions on where to buy for a deal?

Having run plenty of pairs tyres on my ZZR1400 I wouldn't worry too much about the weight tbh. If you're after something with decent wear, grip and all weather capability then I'd pick the PR5. I've also used Angel GT2, Roadtec 01 and Angel GT2 without issue. I had less success with Avons; they disintegrated in the centre.

Also heard good things about the PR4's and 5's. The BT023 are very old tyre tech hence the reason for this post. The T32 is not available as a GT in the size I need 170/50/17-73. The PR 5 is.So far one vote each. I'm no street racer but I do enjoy the torque coming out of the bends.. what mileage do you get with the PR5's?

I ran my!K1300S on PR5s and thought they were great. Better than the Roadtec 01. I now have PR5s on my H2 SX. Again I'm very happy with them.
Awesome thanks! Looking for the best deal on PR5's now then. Any pointers for dealers? I will fit them myself thanks to the wonderful Skylift which is simply awesome

Lift look awesome but shouldn't the strap go around the swingarm/bobbin?

My tyres have been supplied and fitted (using their ride-in ride-out service) by FWR Tyres I've always had good service from them and their prices are competitive.
On the PR?GT question, I had some of the first batch of PR4s on my K1300S (before the PR4GT was available.) I had some minor issues with "movement" as I got towards the edge of the tyre. Nothing serious but not something I felt completely comfortable with. I was advised to contact Michelin about this and did. Michelin came back and said that if using the non-GT tyre on a heavier bike then adding an extra 2 to 3 psi would address any issues. I did this and didn't have any subsequent issues.

Yes, they're brilliant. You might've already done this, but it's worth buying the adaptor pegs to allow swing-arm removal.
Yes I'm looking at those along with the complete adaptor kit so I can do my other bikes too.Jazoli said:

It does. It's just the supplied strap is so long I've coiled it around the strap. I don't use this anymore, I've fabricated a 5mm plate which holds the bobbin to the frame. Surprised they don't make them already.black-k1 said:
That Sky-lift looks great.

Ah I will bear these in mind! Prices look very good. I pulled the trigger on a rear from ebay, one left in stock. Got it for £145 delivered which is fantastic. Will probably get the front from them as its £119 which looks to be a good deal. I love shopping around for tyres My tyres have been supplied and fitted (using their ride-in ride-out service) by FWR Tyres I've always had good service from them and their prices are competitive.

Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it.

Is Pilot Road 5 and Road 5 the same thing?
Road 5's and Pilot Road 5's are the same tyre. The 'Pilot' bit has been dropped from the name now but some people still refer to them as Pilot Road 5's.
And to further confuse things Michelin also do a different tyre called a Power 5 which people get confused with the Road 5 too.
