Bridgestone to Michelin
Discussion
I'm sure this topic has been covered plenty of times however, having just changed from 18" wheels with virtually new RE050 tyres on them to the stock Vantage 19" wheels shod with PS4S (same width 235 Front & 275 Rear) ... what a difference!!
Road noise is less so much so that while out driving yesterday I heard more wind noise from the wing mirror on drivers side! but also, so much more grip and despite going up a size in wheel diameter and coming down on tyre wall height, I was expecting the ride to be a little more harsh but it isn't at all. Its far more compliant.
If anyone hasn't made this change ... I would urge you to do so.

I have to ask - why did your Vantage have 18" wheels on it in the first place?
Came with 18" from new apparently, I wasn't the first registered owner though. I've spoken to a few people over the time I've had it and some cars did in fact leave with 18" Speedline made wheels. They aren't a bad looking wheel, I'm not a huge fan of many of the Aston spec wheel designs.Dungman said:
May I ask where you got the tyres? So far I can only find the PS4S in 100Y. Is that what you have gone for?
Many thanks
I got them from Sandhurst Tyres, called a few places near me and they were the best price plus they have experience of Astons and jacking points etc. Many thanks
Most places I called/visited weren't aware of the correct jacking points and apart from one the rest didn't seem overly concerned about finding out. Credit to Halfords tyre centre, they quoted a price and then looked on line to make sure they were up to speed with correct jacking.
Sandhurst came in around £150 less for the same tyres.
Yes got the 100Y rating.

Thanks. Found them for just under £700 fitted. Seems pretty good. Sounds good. I changed my Bridgestones to Continental Sport Contact 6, and that also was a major improvement (on a DBS).
These are almost due to replacement again, and I am considering the PS4S also, (I have them on my daily car, and indeed very good mix of sporty and comfort and without the "cracking noise" in the cold that the PS3 is lacking of.........

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but... am I the only one who did not experienced THAT much of a change going from Bridgestone to PS4S? What is wrong with me?
I was sceptical but it seemed to be the way to go and I did talk to a guy I bought by wheels off who said he thought it was night and day different and he used his Vantage as a daily driver.
You do have to put several miles on them to really appreciate the difference though and this is what the tyre fitter mentioned to me. Of course I took no notice and immediately got the car squirrelling down the road from the fitters and thinking these aren't that good or at least no better than the RE050's!!
Since taking them on a 20 mile run in average conditions for the year on typical A and B roads, I did notice the improvement, grip is way better especially at the back, ride is more compliant and tyre noise at speed is reduced to my ears.
I would say, it's not night and day different however, it is amazing just how good the change is to the car just by fitting a different tyre and given its a wear item it's easy to swap out and by Aston standards its not a huge expense item.
I hate threads like this and I hate everyone bragging about how good their PS4S's are.

I can't get PS4S's in the front size for my Vantage (245/40 ZR19) so I had to settle for ContactSport 6's. Still way better than the Brickstones for ride compliance - chalk and cheese; the rears are perhaps just a tad more noise sensitive to the road surface, though.

Haha, yes, me too. Like you I need 245/40/19's and PS4S tyres are unavailable in this size. In Europe anyway.

Has anyone opted for 255/40/19 tyres instead? Michelin can supply this size. Anyone done this on a Vantage V8?

I’m leaning towards trying them in 255s when i get the opportunity to wear my Bridgestones out. I have asked a couple of specialists if this might be a problem, and they said it wouldn’t. They are also within the limit of tyre size range for Vantage S front wheels. 😊Has anyone opted for 255/40/19 tyres instead? Michelin can supply this size. Anyone done this on a Vantage V8?
