So am thinking of moving on the C63, with much regret frown as need to cut outgoings.

Needs to be able to fit a towbar for a bike carrier, as the missus has an e-bike now.

Budget is around £25K

Current shortlist of ‘fast’ (all slower than the mercweeping) estates are

BMW 335D, 340i (hard to find a 340i in that budget)
Audi S4

And that’s it! Any ideas?

I put a tow bar on my S6. It’s the older one V10 though - you’d be able to put one into the newer C7 S6 too. They have a pretty decent towing capacity too depending on what you plan on towing with it.

Edit - just seen it’s for a bike rack, in which case I don’t think towing capacity will exactly matter!

Dad’s had two Alpina 5-series which are quick (if you can live with diesel).

I had a 2017 Audi S5 sportback with tow bar fitted fitted from the factory.

Not an estate but huge boot and great access like a hatchback. Awesome all rounder...

Same criteria as my current search. S4 is the top of the list at the moment, the other being the Skoda Superb 280 but I think its too big and not massively keen on a Skoda (unjustified I know).

If it's just for a bike rack, then a C6 RS6 has the points to fit one. Just need to find a towbar that clears the bumper, the S6 one will probably fit fine.

I've done the same on my C5 RS6.

Fast estate with a towbar?

First one that comes to mind is a BMW E61 M5

I'd love one, but head has ruled heart so far.....

RS6 or M5 would be nice but I’m trying to cut costs!

Had a look at the sportback and grancoupe but would really prefer an estate.

Having a look at the options, it’s really coming down to the 340i/335d or S4, the superb 280 is so rare secondhand, the A6 is nice but is a big ‘ol bus.

I've got a towbar on my 280. It's a detachable one, so well hidden that I didn't even realise it had one until I spotted the detachable part in the underfloor cubby hole. Looks like it's never been used. I've still not used it.

You are right that these cars are pretty rare. I searched for mine for a couple of months, got lucky that a local dealer knew of one and got it down for me to look at.
Being quite rare makes it difficult to put a price on it - it's time for me to move it on.
