Interesting. I spent a good amount of time there in the mid-2000’s building the place. They had air defenses in place back then, with amongst other things, Phalanx CWIS cannons around the base. Not sure how effective they would be against ballistic missiles though.

Nevertheless, its quite alarming seeing/hearing those things going off in the night! A very distinctive sound you never forget.

The 60mins video in the link is also excellent.

Amazing no deaths but plenty of brain injuries including still having headaches and tinnitus etc.

The US general at the end saying if there had been deaths they had more US retaliation plans plus the Ukrainian airliner getting shot down when the Iranians were getting ready for a retaliation shows how on edge everything is/was around there.
