A few years ago clay (bar) mitts were the next best thing - is this still the case or should I stick to 'proper' clay bar?
Any recommendations?

I think the mitts work well myself. You could also try some fallout remover prior to clay barring. The less you have to touch your paint the better. Keeps fine scratches / marring down to a minimum.

I tried the farecla clay mitt and quite liked it, especially as you could use it in your normal wash bucket so it stayed well lubed.

The Farecla mitt is the cheap and cheerful, and fast option. The DetailingWorld types either still use clay bars (often Bilt Hamber), or swear by some of the latest clay towels (not sure which brands they favour), which I think start around £25.

I've got a Farcela one I bought from Halfords a while back

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/cla...

Just happened to be using it yesterday and it's a lot faster than using traditional clay bar - suppose it makes sense really as there's a lot more surface area in contact with the panels.

I'm also a big fan of the Bilt Hamber medium clay and I actually meant to try that afterwards to see if it picked up anything extra over the mit but the car got driven so that was a no starter. Must try that though and if it doesnt pick up anything extra I would go with teh nit and use the clay but fiddly bits round badges/lights etc.

Used a farecla G3 clay mitt a few times and been pretty impressed, but for some reason I always feel like it's the half arsed effort compared to a clay bar.

Certainly agree with the comment on a decent falout remover first.

Another tick for the farecla G3 clay mitt here. I used it a lot and was quite impressed by it particularly for the price.

What lubricant do you recommend for the Farécla G3?
Just washing suds or a specific lube?
