The pixies have been at my pixels and now I have a lovely red pixel permanently 'on'.

I know that there are far more important things in life to worry about, but just on the off chance, anyone have any tips to get rid of it?

I've removed a couple of dead pixels in the past by rubbing gently with a finger. Seriously!

Just a careful prod with ones digit might be all thats needed.

Just to be picky, thats not a 'dead' pixel. Its a stuck or 'bright' one. Basically 'stuck' displaying the 'R' part of 'RGB'.

There really is nothing you can do about it unfortunately. Check your manufacturer's details, as if you have 3 (or depending on their tolerance level stated) or more dead/stuck pixels, then you can get it exchanged.

I've seen in small print that up to seven can be allowed, though I suppose it depends on the maker. I tried a cheap one from Staples which had one red pixel and took it back (they have a 14-day no-quibble guarantee). I now have two Sonys, one new, one s/h from eBay, and both are perfect

I have found that the multisync NEC/Mitsubishi business class (Multisync LCD SX/SXi, etc) panels seem to fare the best as far as pixel life...
