Can anyone recommend a free small utility that can be run from USB that would wipe all free space on a SSD drive (said drive as runs the Windows OS)

Thanks in advance!

Thanks
But do you know if this can keep data that’s there but just write zero’s over empty space on the HD?
I had a quick look at the link and it appears as though it only wipes the whole drive

Why download, when you can stream!
I just want to wipe a laptop before giving it away, rather than reinstall the OS

Assuming W10 a reset (under Recovery in Update & Security) will zap everything and install a fresh version of Windows.
Not a secure wipe, but good enough for most.

Partition the drive. Then you can wipe, format, whatever with the free partition.

I always thought that to wipe an SSD properly you used a secure erase method that issues some kind of command to erase it all.
This seems to be different to the long 0's and 1's writing method for spinning disks
I have something on a Parted Magic bootable USB that does that but I have only used it on a complete drive
I know it isnt much help

Well you are going the wrong way about it then.
Wipe the drive and reinstall the OS.
Its the OS that will hide all your little secrets.....

R Wipe & Clean will do that and comes with a 15-day free trial. You need to install it though, then can delete it once you’re done

When needed to do this in the past is to write random data into a file, until the disk is full, then delete that file, then run fstrim to restore the performance.
No idea how you would do this on windows.

Actually I did it on an android tablet once where there were not tools, downloaded a 2gig file, then copied it repeatedly till all the storage was full.
You could do this a couple of times to try and make sure you get the areas the os or the drive won't let you write to.
