Thanks to all of you who helped me with the sticky numberplate on my Griff. Huge thanks also to Mike for the impromptu assistance with wielding a screwdriver... and the tea.

However, I gave up in the end. It was taking forever to scrape just tiny bits off the plate. So I put the new plate over the top. You can't see that there's another plate underneath unless you look very closely. Although there was no discoloration of the paintwork underneath - that's something I suppose.

Not too happy with the whole scenario, though. The new plate is an improvement on the old one, which was looking a bit ancient, but it still doesn't look quite right to me. Front end respray coming right up!!

Sorry all the suggested techniques failed. Got to be some mega strength glue they used. Probably the same stuff I used on a Lancia I had. The window winder on the door started to slip on its spindle so I thought a dab of superglue would remedy the problem. Fixed it g a treat, the window never opened again.
Good luck with the front end respray.
