Mini Clubman D - 145000 miles

Hi!

I am considering purchasing a 2010 Mini Clubman 1.6 D. Our VW Golf MK4 SDi Estate is at death's door, so we need to switch!

I'm aware it's quite high mileage, but it is well serviced and so I'm unsure if this negates the mileage a little? I'd see if I could haggle on the price a little at all of course, but am after advice/experiences with these higher mileage diesel engines?

Yes I believe so - I live in Oxfordshire and you can't drive into Central Oxford anyway. I drive a diesel now so I'm not overly bothered..

Yes, I thought there were two colours there, other than asking the dealer is there anyway I can find out?

I saw also Autotrader marked it as £400+ overpriced, so was going to go in quite low with an offer, but as it’s a bit of a drive I’d have to do all that before going.

Useful to know about the issues that exist. Do you think an older car/higher mileage might have been there, done that? It has a good service history and the MOT history seems quite ok, too.

It looks tidy enough but at that mileage I'd be factoring in a suspension refresh also as any car reaches 100k I'd want to be seeing oil changes every 10k, stamps are good but I'd also want to see receipts.

The thing is for your budget you could get a nicely spec'd estate with half the mileage for the same money

I’ve got a 2013 Clubvan (so a Clubman without rear seats and windows) which I have owned for 2.5 years and about 50k miles, currently on 105k.

Google BMW N47 engine to find out about timing chain issues. Mine has been fine, I change the oil every 6k miles. Oil changes are very easy, no need to go underneath the car.

The ride in the standard vehicle is VERY firm! I would have sold mine after a few months if I hadn’t spent about £750 on Koni shocks to soften things up a bit. I also found the seats too hard and do use a cushion pad on them.

Apart from all that, it’s great!

Just to note this car has the Peugeot Diesel engine, not the BMW one. Any reason why your going for the diesel? The Cooper (non S) is a reliable engine and good MPG from the 1.6 petrol

Was just about to say this. And if you want economy of a diesel I'm sure there are better value options than a Clubman (boggo Mini Hatch for instance).
