I have been uummming and aaarrhhhing over a secondary car for dog duties for a few months now with a budget up to £3k. I was looking at Ford Focus’s, Golf’s, VW Passat’s, old BMW tourers, Saab’s etc. I really regret selling my rare E39 540i Touring so I kinda wanted another V8.

I stumbled across this eBay a few days ago and couldn’t take my eyes off it.... and.... knowing absolutely nothing about it other than the limited description in the ad and having zero knowledge about these types of vehicles, I striked a deal, unseen.... I’ve no idea if I paid too much or too little @ £3k.

An old left-hand drive 1998 American pickup truck with a 5.7 V8. As standard this model comes with a 5.0 litre engine but this has the optional 5.7

Chevrolet Silverado K1500
Extended Cab
Z71 (off-road pack)

I’m collecting this Saturday and I’ve ordered alloy wheel spray paint, headlamp restoration kit and wind deflectors which are being shipped from California.

I think with a good polish, revieved wheels and black tyre gel she’ll look good, I hope.

Stay tuned for future posts and photos cool

Cool!

I think at 3 grand if it isn't hiding a serious problem (rust?) it's "why not" sort of money. Being what it is I'll bet you parts are cheap and the truck fairly easy to work on too.

I think that's super cool & love seeing random american stuff that feels vaguely inappropriate being driven about normally in the UK !

I've got a Volvo 240 estate for dog duty and the tip run.

The next time I use it I'll think of this thread and wonder were it all went wrong.

Even if you have bought a total nail you've definitely done the right thing.

Look at the size of the loading "bay"...!
Just think of all those favours you will now get asked by people to cart around fridges and sofas and give them a hand on their tip runs
You lucky sod!

Great purchase by the way...

Had a 98 GMC which is the same truck , fairly bulletproof , as has been mentioned so long as the rot is minimal you can't go wrong .Moneywise it's about right too . Top tip order yourself a spare fuel pump as they have a tendancy to give up without warning . Enjoy

If it's not rotten, that's a very good price. They can run forever if you keep up with basic maintenance: they're still very popular as work trucks where I live, and I regularly see them with upwards of 500k miles.

I really like it.

No failing can-bus electrics and one of the best engines ever made. Super reliable one sorted and zero depreciation to make up for your fuel costs.

Looks like it may have some rust issues around the rear of the chassis.

That shouldn't be too difficult to fix though.

Actually, this model (extended cab sportside) came standard with a 5.0 litre V8. Apologies! But the 5.7 was the one to have of course wink They also did a diesel 6.5 litre!

Thanks all for the positive comments! I’m sure my German Shepherd will enjoy riding in the back. I plan to get a dog crate and strap it down for safety though for longer drives.

Approved. thumbup

I hope you've got a large parking space: it's probably much longer and wider than you expect. smile
