My partner runs a travel agents in m/cr - received 3 calls on wednesday all from foreigners wanting flights the next day (afternoon) 2 to some place near bangladesh and one to chicago - the credit cards were stolen cards. (Partner has a sixth sense for these) and refused the bookings.

Now probably nothing to do with yesterday, but worth looking into. Called scotland yard - was told special police (? or something) will be there first thing this morning to get the details (as two of them left their mobile numbers, credit card details and presumably their names which would be on passports) plus the 2 to bangaldesh-flights they wanted were booked up for yesterday so they would have had to fly out today.

Forgot to mention, all three wanted to go from london. When partner got suspicious she asked how they got her number and all 3 said 118 500 (company isnt listed on there).

No sign of the police!!! Now as I say it may have nothing to do with yesterday but if it was, the police could have tracked them from the info she has and had the picked up the other end (today/tonight).

On the other hand it could be some musim people terrified that they might get caught in some sort of xenophobic backlash so they are trying to get out the country by any means possible.

Or you could be right

The Police will be getting pulled in all directions. If these people are to be caught then it takes the likes of us to persevere with the police and support them, not to give up if they don't call back.

It's probably nothing - but you never know.

but just a shame scotland yard seemed so keen to investigate and the officers haven't turned up! (I realise they are really busy, but what if one of them was something to do with it and they now miss them?)

Also, they called on weds for thursday pm flight, so bombs had not yet gone off)

(the title of my thread is a bit ott though!)

Xenophobic backlash, on Wednesday, to an event not to occur until Thursday? Do you think they could let me have tomorrow's lottery numbers?

I understand that AQ is a well organised outfit. I cannot believe for one moment that on the ground operatives would be anything other than 100% legit when travelling.

Nonetheless, if it were me, I'd be back on the phone to the police at some stage.

This is a very good point, and also why ID cards will probably be of little use as the terrorists will be using genuine legitimate ID's, just like those who flew the planes into the twin towers on their own passports. What are folks who have never commited a crime? innocent, up until the moment they do.

No, a large proportion of my colleagues are wading through dead bodies in underground tunnels and letting family members know their sons/daughters/husbands etc aren't coming home this weekend.

Sorry.

I find it difficult to believe that well organised terrorists who have done this undetected would make so stupid a mistake as to try and leave on a stolen credit card.

This is the exact reason most of us think that ID cards would be useless against this new type of terrorism. They recruit people from within our community to do the dirty deeds & no amount of ID cards will ever prevent this type of attack.

Can the government not see this or are they blind in their own stupidity?

Be patient, they'll get back to you. It's unlikely that any fleeing terrorists would take a direct flight or use unsafe stolen CCs but you never know. It's up to all of us to keep an eye out.

Petros,

I find your comments insulting - I work as a traffic sergeant in south west London and know that every available car and bike from my garage went straight up to central London ...... the only ones that didn't were already dealing with a fatal accident. And thats the way it should and would always be.

People off duty turned up at our garage and people rang up offering to come in unpaid. The problem was we didnt have enough cars, etc to get them up there.

Please think a little deeper before you post comments like you have!
