I did search for this but i couldn't see a thread

looking to import a non running 1971 classic from Germany, since Brexit do we have car import duty and VAT to pay? that looks like + 30% or am I missing something?

I believe its just import duty and as it an old car its something like 5%. Get in touch with customs they will soon tell you.

Even if you do have to pay vat & duty, its only 5% vat & 4% duty for an unmodified classic/ any vehicle over 30 years old.

that wouldn't be too bad, is that 5% VAT rate for a collectible item? Brexit has been such a PITA for imports that it's making me concerned

Anything over 30 years old is considered a classic/collectable, as long as it is not modified.

Import under the 97.05 commodity code section for collectable items. 0% Duty, 5% VAT.
