I can't recall seeing any posts about these on the forum and they've been out for a couple of years now. I can't think of seeing one on the road either, only time I recall in the flesh was at a dealer.

I haven't paid them much attention but recently with my X5M coming up for 3yrs old I started looking at what other SUV (kids and their crap lugger) could replace it.

Anybody have one and is it an option when looking to move out of a X5.....or is it simply too expensive at entry with severe depreciation meaning a X5 is a better choice.

I think I ever seen only one in the flesh.
Huge and boxy. Found the GL much better looking.

Huge BMW fan, have had one or more on the drive in one guise or another for the last 30 years. The bigger X range has never done it for me, always gone LR. Did try the X7 when it came out but in my opinion, you can't beat a Disco for moving people around in comfort. Looked at the GLS recently as well but the exterior seems very dated now.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the UK.

Only place I’ve ever seen them was at Villa d’Este where BMW were using them for VIP transport.

People were openly laughing at them - they are not good looking.... and at a show with the world's most beautiful cars, it didn’t really work!

Does it share much with the Cullinan?

Had a brand new one for a few weeks whilst my (now departed) i8 was having engine problems.

They’re absolutely enormous. Ridiculously so. Well appointed but predictably dull to drive and just too big for our streets. I did a lot of London driving and some trips to Manchester. Fine car for a motorway to be fair.

If the choice was between an X7 and X5, then X5 all day long for me.

Guy a couple of doors down from me has one. Looks decent I think and from a distance doesn’t look big but as you get closer and closer it begins to feel pretty huge. A few years ago I would have liked one when I was going through my bigger is better phase but I am over that and just want hassle free now

"Cullinan SUV is not a modified BMW X7. Instead, Rolls-Royce gains access to the important bones and ensures the vehicle looks, feels, and drives like a Rolls-Royce. The luxury brand doesn't share powertrains with BMW, either. Instead, the iconic 6.75-liter V-12 engine is a British powerplant through and through. What customers don't see, touch, or feel, are the shared BMW components."

I don’t normally admit to it on PH for fear of ridicule, however I do have an X7! Got it in September (M50i with Ultimate pack, so basically all the toys on it), and to be honest, I absolutely love it. I have previously had 4 X5s (although the newest was an E70) all of which were also V8’s, including an X5M, and none were remotely comparable to the X7. I did look at the new X5, which is more similar in many ways to the X7, but it was just too small in both the back seats and boot for my needs.

I was choosing between this or a Range Rover (having also previously had one a few years ago). Prefer the looks and image of the Range Rover, but the X7 makes a much better car for me. The interior space is massively better, which is an issue for me as I’m about 6’4, and my son who sits behind me is 6’2, which makes finding a car that works for us rather tricky (he can’t even get his feet into the rear footwell behind me in something like a 5 series). The handling is in a different league, plus it is one of the few cars I’ve driven that wafts like a Range Rover does. It also rides very well, even on the stupid 22” wheels that it came with.

I don’t really get the comments about it being too big - whilst it obviously is not a small car, it is no wider than an XC90 (or X5), and especially with the 4 wheel steering, is actually more manoeuvrable than many smaller cars. It is about 6 inches longer than a 5 series or E-Class, which doesn’t make it unsuitable in my experience!

It will undoubtedly depreciate rather a lot, but I couldn’t find anything else that I wanted more, so thought I’d have a last hurrah with a stupid V8 before we all end up in EVs!

Good to hear from someone who actually owns one - and the V8 at that.

I borrowed an M50d a few years ago when they first came out and really enjoyed it for what it is. This was from the perspective of having two teenage daughters, a teenage stepdaughter, and a new baby on the way (at the time).

As it happens I've managed without one as it's rare that the kids are all with me simultaneously, and the pandemic has significantly reduced travel, but I still see it as a very desirable large family car for someone needing third row flexibility for >10 year olds.
