Anyone here have tips on DIY wheel restoration or links?

While three of my wheels are OK one is badly damaged, photo attached I think

I used smooth Hammerite to restore the wheels on an old Ford, it looked OK but these are alloys I think?

Alloy is surprisingly soft and will sand easily to remove the scuffs. Undercoat, alloy wheel spray and liquor will have them looking like new. Time taken and prep is the key as said above. Refurbished a set myself last year and very pleased with how they turned out.

Liquor... hic... wink

I wouldn’t recommend involving that in the refurb process laugh

I've DIY refurbed plenty of wheels but TBH these look like the tyre would need to come off as the the paint is peeling at the edges creeping under the paint and lifting it.

If you just repaint the front face it will peel up again in no time. Unless I'm mistaken these look like MR2 Roadster wheels which are notorious for this - why not check out ebay for a good wheel suitable for repainting - or even a set as they are pretty cheap???

BTW Have you thought about putting a bit of Hammerite on your brake disc to take care of the rust.....????!!!!! ;-') LOL That needs sorting first fella! :-)

Your right MR2 Roaster!!!

I thought about putting different wheels on the car but then won't I have hassle from the insurance.

And no I did not think of the disks, I'll be doing as recommended.

Remove wheels, deflate tyres then get a local tyre shop to push the beads back. Then use these below on a cordless drill. Finish off with ultra fine scotch hand pad. Spray silver then lacquer. About as good as it gets by hand .
