Any recommendations for something to replace an ageing Nexus 5X?

Very light use, just WhatsApp, android auto, web browsing and various car OBD apps.

Don't need 5G. Don't really need a decent camera as I don't use it, but if I had a phone with a decent one maybe I would.

Needs a decent battery life. My 5X dies by late afternoon if I dare to use it.

I like "pure" Android.

Budget £300 or so. Happy with refurbed or similar.

Motorola G9 of some sort? Pixel 4a?

Thanks

Dave.

Have you looked at Nokia?

Eta £300 - https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_gb/nokia-8-3-5g-bu...

Or £169 - https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_gb/nokia-5-4

Moto G9 or 10 are good value and almost pure Android.
Motorola also do the Motorola One Hyper which seems to be similar hardware to the G series but with totally pure Android One software.

If you're looking for a 'de-googled' phone, have a look at eSolutions.

Another vote for the Nokia 5.4 - other half has one and it's a great device for the money.

Got to be the Pixel 4a if you don't mind stretching to 350.

yes I bought a G9 Plus a couple of months back for under £200. It's a bit of a brute size and weight-wise but well worth a look.

You can get a galaxy s9 off amazon for less. It does everything and is better than the budget phones imo.

Newest Pixel device you can afford or a "Android One" supported device.

I was trying to write the issues with it but one of them is the script stops and the screen locks up. Predictive still shows what you are typing. Back button removes the keyboard but still locked. Switches off every few days and the security update hasn't happened since last year and a Google update loads but will not install. Android (edited as it locked again!) 11 promised but not shown on any update timescale where all the others are. Nokia helpline is a joke - run in safe mode rather than update the software

I bought an Umidigi S5 from Amazon a couple of months ago. £200 massive battery, good camera, vanilla Android OLED screen 256gb works a dream. I'm happy with it.

I have a OnePlus 6.
Fast processor, nice screen, does everything you need. A charge lasts me all day, quite easily, even in heavy use and the charging is pretty rapid.
I think their latest mid-range one is the OnePlus Nord N10.

I have a Nokia 6.1 "AndroidOne" phone and it is excellent. It's my work phone and even though I've only ever used iPhones for personal stuff I find it easy to use and it works seamlessly.

If battery life is a key requirement, I would recommend the recently released Realme 7 5g, which comes in under your budget at £279.

It's got a 5000mAh battery, which should easily exceed any expectations you have around battery life.

Added bonuses include (which may not be big selling points for you)

5g radio chipset
120Hz display
48MP camera array
30W fast charging

Very decent price. Let us know what you think of it when it turns up and you've had a chance to use it.

Been using the realme for a few days now.

Pretty pleased really, battery lasts 2 days easily with more usage than the 5X that would die early evening.

Camera seems decent. Runs quickly.

Even came with a case which I don't remember having on any phone before!

It's a bit too big but most phones are these days.
