Just joined PH, and after years of being a TVR enthusiaist (without actually owning one) a few months ago I decided to get into biking. It had been something I'd wanted to do for a long time and just suddenly I decided to go for it.

Did my CBT and bought a 125, which taught me the ropes but I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Anyway I then did my test on a CBF500 which was fun, but I always really wanted a sports 600 - and a few days ago I rode my first one :D Ho ho ho. I don't think I'll ever forget opening it up for the first time on a deserted slip road. For some reason I felt the urge to shout an expletive even though noone could hear me (no idea why!)

The rest is history and I'm a convert. I'm on the verge of buying an '05 ZX-6R, which is a huge step, but what the hell.

Anyway, getting to the point, Hi all!

Hiya JD78,

In exactly (well almost) the same situ.... Been around here for a while, whilst looking at TVR's...Then bought a BMW and am now taking the DAS! Absolutely loved my first outing on a 125, and am looking forward to the 500cc experience. Have been told that a 600 is a good starting bike, but must admit the weight issue is scaring me. But, at 33 I'm not the sort ride like a nutter, but a big sports bike is definately on the cards.

Anyone know of a good place to start collecting all the gear...boots etc..?

Cheers,

Chilli.

Infinity Motorcycles are usually pretty cheap, Hein Gericke are pretty good too, Busters Accessories do some good stuff, and eBay has a lot to offer. Have a look and see what youre after.

Hi JD78

very similar story here. Did exactly the same on a slip road when I hired a ZX6R one year after the DAS and without having ridden between.

Welcome and all the best for many years trouble free biking

Weight won't be an issue. A sports 600 will weight about the same as a 500 commuter.

Get decent, not budget kit, cos the one time you'll need it, will be the one time that you wish you had good quality kit on.

Price isn't always a good guide as to quanlity, but is a good reference point. Make sure you get good gloves, as these are often the first thing to touch down and you don't want them to split or burst, as many do.

Hein Gericke do good, affordable kit, but some of the supermarket style bike clothing places just stock sh*t which would offer little protection if you fell over in the back garden.

Speak to people who are already riding/racing and see what they recommend following crashes, etc!!

Cheers to all who replied.

Would be picking up the bike this Sat if the insurance company would get their act together and provide a cover note so I can get it taxed.....

Anyone know if a cover note printed off the internet is adequate, because thats what I've sent the garage

Otherwise I'm going to have to wait another whole week.

try www.infinitymotorcycles.com or www.demon-tweeks.co.uk for gear. Both are quite well known. I agree with Fergus, don't go for budget gear.
