So the small microwave that lives in the cupboard went bang yesterday morning; the timing was excellent as I was going to the skip an hour later anyway so it got swiftly lobbed. I do not cook with a microwave, it only ever gets used for warming plates when both ovens are in use. So, what I need is:

Something about the size of a modest microwave
That can warm plates
That adds other functionality that the double oven doesn't have

Open to suggestions!

I've looked at some rotisserie ovens that might be fun but not stuck on the idea.

Well that's certainly worth considering from the plate warming point of view, actually SWMBO quite likes the suggestion. I was hoping to pack some additional functionality in too though.

Well I was thinking along the lines of something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tefal-OF445840-Capacity-R...

I don't think that particular one has a warming function but others do.

If you don't have one already, then Airfryer Oven. Probably too small to warm plates, but that's what hot water in the sink is for, an airfryer has become an absolute must in this house for years.

We have this and would buy again in a heartbeat:

Also have one of these mainly for chips wink

All microwaves will warm plates. Just put it on max power for 30 seconds.

Don't think that's true.

Put a splash of water on the plate and high power for 30 seconds and it will be hot.
A microwave if used in the correct settings can be a versitile tool.

Always worked for me. Not so sure about fine bone china though... could be expensive!

I just shove them in dry. Water content in the clay I presume.

Indeed. I didn't believe it 20 years ago when someone told me this works, but it does. Plates heat up in microwaves.

Anyone who doesn’t believe it just needs to try and touch a ceramic bowl full of stew thats reheated n a microwave.

The bowl will get much hotter than the stew!

I think an air fryer is a good shout, lots of people seem to like them. Can you do yorkie puds in them?

If you pick the "oven" type, yes.

Bear in mind they are relative small so a tray of 12 cake tin size isn't going to fit smile

The drawer type would struggle to get a container in.
