Driving with no MOT or tax
Discussion
Book a MOT and drive to it. There is provision for this in law.

If you’re taking your car to a pre-booked MOT test, you can drive your vehicle on a road without it being taxed. The law doesn’t state how far you can travel, but if you stop off at the shops on the way or cover an unreasonably long distance it could be deemed that you’re using the vehicle for other purposes and the exemption won’t apply.

drive to the garage for a pre arranged MOT, what else can you do? Apart from mess about with a trailer. Make sure the garage is local.
Luckily the garage is pretty local to me, it was the cameras I'm more concerned about as obviously they have no idea what my plan is.

I remember discussing this years ago, with a friend who was a retired Met traffic plod. He said if you were involved in an accident on the way to/from a MOT test, and your vehicle was deemed to have been in a dangerous condition pre accident ( tyres/brakes etc) you could be in a tricky insurance situation. Your insurance would pay a third party claim, but may look to recover costs from you. So a booked MOT isn't a get out of jail free card.

Interesting point. Luckily it's probably a 5 minute drive for me at max 50mph for about 1/4 a mile before dropping to 30 mph. blade7 said:

Driving to an MOT in a car in a dangerous condition?? is just driving a car .......in a dangerous condition, you'd expect some kickback.UTH said:
I assume that if a camera automatically fines me
I'd be surprised if it even flags it up. In 2019, I drove around without insurance (completely unknown to me, as I had changed car and insurance and confirmed it with my broker, turns out they never processed it). After 3 months I had a letter saying I need to insure my vehicle. No fine. No points.
Naturally, I was fuming and went ape at my insurance provider and got £25 compensation for their f

If no insurance gets ignored for so long, I imagine tax and MOT won't kick up a fuss unless it is for a prolonged period of time.
