To stop clogging up the Sarah Everard thread and as a forum of mostly men, we are now invited to discuss our blame for all women feeling threatened.

If by some small chance you aren't a rapist, murderer or other male based criminal you are still at blame for not stopping the huge majority who are.

This article is interesting, Baroness Jones (Green party) wants all men curfewed after 6pm.

She goes on to say "I feel this would make women a lot safer, and discrimination of all kinds would be lessened."

Obviously she doesn't know that most women killed by men are killed in their homes (71% 2019 - 202 according to that BBC article), so more forced contact with men would risk making them less safe?

Also, "discrimination of all kinds" , she doesn't do irony apparently.

So on PH we now have one thread about Sarah Everard being killed and two threads from men moaning about the reaction. Really?

I fail to see why women wanting not to be harassed is a battle of the sexes. Seems to me you're defending the right to be an arse in public, at best.

Poor taste IMO. I'm calling it out. Abuse me and mods'll get called v quickly.

Laura agrees smile

As a husband and father of two girls, I don’t want to see females abused any more than any other reasonable him being.

But calling out the entire opposite sex because women do still get abused is a ridiculous stance to take. And if that’s ridiculous, the idea of a curfew for men at night is even worse.

In fact having brought it up with two intelligent women today I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t think the argument is a stupid one.

For the record, I’ve yet to knowingly witness a single woman being abused in public (that’s not to say I was ignorant of it mind you) but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t ignore it-I’d be straight in the phone to the police.

In fact, apart from violence between men having worked in the night life industry for years I’d say 100% of men/women violence I encountered the women were very much the aggressors (although again, I can’t always have been witness to what proceeded it).

I don’t see any claims for women to be banned from drinking in public.

Stranger attacks are still incredibly rare, that’s not to say they’re rare enough.

What are your ideas for a solution?

That’s a pretty sad reflection on this place, it’s become a safe house for some very reactionary types. Probably best to stick to cars, sport and practical advice but sometimes you can’t help yourself!

And even the main thread includes people moaning and arguing.

I am with you here.

I have been listening to the news since 06:00 and it has been a barrage of women denigrating the male population, 99.999% of whom wouldn't assault a woman, 99% of whom would not believe that they could ever safely walk every inch of our country's streets after dark, which is what some campaigners seem to be suggesting that women should be able to do.

Social media really is a pile of steaming ste, I heard a woman on the radio today say they are going to flood social media with the message to show men they should be able to walk out whenever they want and shouldn't be attacked.

Well that's made me put away my hockey mask and machete this evening that's for sure.

I must admit, I don't see any "all men are evil" content in that BBC article. In fact, the quoted facts are a good reminder that 1) women are more at risk in domestic settings and 2) men are far more likely to be victims of violence.
But elsewhere today I have heard several claims that all men are responsible for the crimes of a few men and I refute that claim entirely. It's that extreme attitude that should be challenged, because it helps no-one. And as women say, they need men's help to overcome misogyny, obviously. So declaring that the crimes of a few are a shared responsibility of the many is counter productive.

I don’t think two threads is needed, but not unusual for any subject.

However there has been a lot of anger about comments that have been made. Is it not reasonable that people wish to discuss this and share their upset at being branded dangerous purely for their sex?

It’s no different to the people who call all Muslims terrorists or minimise violence against Afro Americans by the police due to crime statistics. Rightly those are both deeply criticised. However most strongly by the people making the sweeping statements agains men.

As if men can walk out whenever and wherever they want and not get attacked.

This site records 21 murders in London so far this year, 18 of the victims are male. I don't think any of them have their own thread. This one may be especially shocking (mind the victim blaming though) but as far as I'm concerned turning this into a general attack on men is divisive, stupid and insulting to the vast majority of men.

Nothing like this response would be tolerated if it was applied to black people, Muslims, gay people or any other group because blaming entire broad groups for the behaviour of certain individuals is generally considered wrong.
