Sorry to add to all the women threads. Any Iranian knows that going back to their home country is a massive risk... they need to know the “right” people...

How likely is it that the UK Gov will foot the £400 million decades old debt to free her?

Would the UK ever attempt to retrieve someone from such a situation? Or is she basically stranded?

She's not stranded, she's living in her parents house in her own country. Why our government bothers to get involved is a mystery.

Although in the case of our current PM his not bothering with things like attention to detail as Foreign Secretary meant HMG involvement has made things worse.

The govt wouldn't be footing any bill; the money is held in an escrow account belonging to a private company. The money is Iran's and notwithstanding the sanctions argument the footdragging is baffling.
