Hi,

I cant find anywhere that tells me when I need to change my cam belt on my VW golf. Anyone know where I can find this info?

Thanks in advance

VW UK recommends the belt is changed every 5 years, irrespective of mileage.

Double check it is a belt as some VAG 1.2s are chain driven and in theory should last the life of the engine.

Thanks. It definitely has a belt - I got my mechanic to check when it was last in with him.

In theory, so should the belt. And modern aramid belts don't 'stretch' like a chain does as it wears its links. The belt apparatus for the Mk1 Ford Focus was designed to last 150,000 - and I can vouch for that. Ours has just achieved that mileage. I'm pondering whether it's worth changing on a 20+yr old car! Five years is a ridiculously short interval. Do VW make then from cheese rind?
