Both cost v similar.

Im going to put a similar thread up in the Porsche section, so both teams can be as biased as they wish
Im genuinely torn between what I do. The good lady wife has given consent to the 911 and we even have very similar ideas on the build spec. The deal would be much easier and simpler, throw the current Pork at the dealer and just say make a deal happen, etc. But Aston...V12...etc, etc, etc.

So Team Aston...make your case...

Neither - both turbo.

Get one of the last n/a V12 Aston's and make it a keeper.

Edit - or a GT3RS if pork is your preference to beef....

Why? It's pointless. Drive them both and decide which you like best. Both have more performance than you can sensibly use many times over.

Ive never had the hate against forced induction.
Though it will be a cold day in hell before I ever buy a track tt car.

You seem to have answered your own question?

The Porsche is the easy/obvious choice, but it’s the Aston you want... for all those reasons that make no rational sense but all the difference.

If you can buy a new Turbo to your spec and get it soon it would have to be the Turbo. The new one is meant to be fantastic and they won't depreciate as much either.
Arhh the DBS looks so sexy though.....

The porsche will be a better built and faster car, but it doesn’t have that noise and doesn’t look anywhere near as good. Also, the Porsche won’t be near as much as an event as the Aston.

Although it was at a different price point (budget was mid £40k) when I was recently looking for my Vantage I also checked out Caymans. I think the difference with me was I'd always wanted an Aston but the Cayman offered more car for the same £s, or a similar car for less, so I had to have a look even if only to confirm the Aston was the right way to go.

"But it's not an Aston" is what I and my wife kept saying so the Vantage won - and very very easily - in the end.

Both of the above are spot on. I've driven a mates Porsche a lot when we've been away together and it has never had the same sense of occasion as the Aston.

The only choice you need to make is which colour Aston to go for!

By coincidence I sold a Cayman to get the Vantage. The Porsche feels like a sports car in fancy clothing, the Vantage a classy and very capable gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) express. Presumably this in mirrored further up the value chain (?) but as above it's chalk and cheese as an experience although my wife preferred driving the Porsche as it's smaller and lighter in all respects!

Many, many more admiring comments and looks in the Aston, particularly with that engine noise....

This. Vanquish S or V12VS are the cars to look at.

Neither of them, nor the DBSSL, will be as quick as the Porsche and in the wet don’t even try. But they are all more special.


ETA: a bit left field, this one, and if you’re looking at V12 Astons it may be futile, but have you considered a GT8? Probably a safer (hmm: less risky perhaps) place to put your money than the other two.

There is a real fondness for Aston Martins by everyone, not just car enthusiast.
Something simple, such as quickly being let out of side turnings, illustrates the feelings towards the marque.
Every journey is a special occasion.

You mentioned turbos, but while we can, I love not having forced induction. That exhaust sound is purely natural and not muffled by the turbo(s). You can easily make it louder if you wish.

Lastly Porsche do make a great number of 911s, so unlike Aston Martin, they are not a rarity on the road anymore.
Sorry to admit this, but to me a 911 is just another 911. I can tell an older car from a more recent model, but within the range, I cannot tell them apart.

There you are, you asked for a contest.
Drive some and see whether you like them. Not obligatory to wear a dinner jacket, or be a secret agent.

The Porsche is a superb car, a genuinely great tool that is fantastic at what it does. The Aston is a genuinely great drive too, but an entirely different one. But the Aston is also an experience in a way that the Porsche can never be.

I had a 911 turbo - which I kept for a month after buying a V8 Vantage to make sure I really liked it before selling the Porsche. I did sell the Porsche.

I fully expect to own another Aston in the future.

I don't expect to ever own another 911 turbo.
