Tequila Drinkers?!
Discussion
Effectively you have three grades, Silver/Blanco, Reposado and Anejo. The first is unaged and normally used as a mixer or the infamous shots. The second is aged in wooden barrels (3 years ?) and is sipped, the third is longer aged.
We get a fraction of the available tequilas over here as the Mexicans are rather precious of the 'good stuff', an fact much of the cheaper blanco we get over here is considered P*ss.
Presently I've got a bottle of Herradura anejo open (can't believe I was sniffing the contents before 9 am), which was brought back for me from Mexico though it's also reasonably available over here - was hoping for a very specific one (Raizul) but a lot of the makers are mainly distributed locally.
With Patron and Herrandura you're unlikely to go wrong.
Side note - the quality and style of tequila can make a big difference to a decent margarita. If you're using just a decent triple-sec (i.e. Cointreau)and lime juice (and maybe some sugar syrup, I do not) then an aged tequila can do wonders and you can tell the difference.

Just remembered there was a previous thread here - though I thought it was a lot larger than just pages (confused it with the rum one I think).

My favourite drink in the sun is the silver with Ginger Ale and slice of lime.
Never drank it neat which I think is the whole idea.
I don't care much for the gold coloured.
Vague friend of mine married a Mexican girl. When he visited her (large) family in Mexico City he found they just drank blanco with coke.Never drank it neat which I think is the whole idea.

Tequila is so bad that in Mexico they developed the whole lime, salt thing to improve the taste, and even then after the tequila it is traditional to have a shot of sangrita (mostly orange juice) to take away the taste.
Thought I ought to give tequila a second chance after uni experience. Can't say I like it neat - tastes vegetal and odd but when you make it into a margarita some kind of alchemy happens.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
