It has been a phenomenon for a few years: Scottish accents are meant to sound more likeable and trustworthy, so advertisers use them a lot.

But it has got to a point on some commercial stations where it's like being in Scotland. Or at least a pretend Scotland, because I suspect that some of them are English actors performing a Scottish accent. There is something just slightly off about them.

Is this just me, becoming old and listening to too much radio aimed at the crumblies? Or has anyone else noticed it?

It's really getting on me thrupennies.

I cant think of single Scottish accent in any advert at the moment. I'm not sure I even notice them.

The donkey on the Listerine advert is Scottish, might even be Glaswegian.

Other than that I couldn't name another!

It is all part of the SNP’s “grand plan”.

The English will become so used to hearing a Scottish accent that eventually they won’t hear them at all - similar to living on a flight path or next to a railway.

This means that when the SNP take over all positions of power they won’t notice.

Obviously already working on some posters in the thread but not the OP - he will now be added to “The List” and dealt with accordingly.

The Scots are well known to be tight AF with money, so if a Scot is telling you something is worth buying, then it's worth buying! wink

I've never even noticed it. It's strange the things people listen out for and pick up on.

It's still the same country mate, you have heard of this thing called the "United Kingdom" right, it's been about for 314 years. Not much longer maybe if your attitude is anything to go by though. I wouldn't blame those north of the border voting to leave if their accents are "getting on your thrupennies".

Honestly, who gives a st so long as it isn't Scouse whining. jester

OP, this radio station you listen to, is it possible it’s BBC radio Scotland? Is it possible you’ve tuned in to that or maybe Argyll FM, or Two Lochs Radio? This might explain all these accents that are getting on your ‘thrupennies’ hehe

As a man of mixed race, to me, all people are equal. Regardless of accents wink

I never assumed it was a trust thing.

I thought it was because Scottish people want to hear Scottish people on the radio and won't buy something advertised by an English person. And English people don't care. So just use all Scottish people...
