I a currently own a 2015 Ford Focus 1.1 Eco Boost, but have been seriously considering an MB A Class of about 2017 plate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

i think, i you are looking for a german brand, personally like me if you like good performance and handling if go for a 1 series. Really depends what you are wanting from the car. Sounds like itll still be an upgrade from the ford though

How much are you looking to spend? Petrol/Diesel? Power? Must haves?

I was looking to spend no more than say £14000 with my car as trade in. 2016 or newer, automatic, as low a milage as possible, leather trim/ AMG trim. Diesel or Petrol.

Now if you want the best A Class you can buy for 14k then it's this is it:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103120...

These are the same car as this but with a nicer interior out of the two:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202010124...

Diesel

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202102269...

As you can see you get the exact same interior (with a slightly different layout) even down the switches

Now if you want an A Class then the AMG Line models are the one to go for:

A180d

A180 AMG Line Premium

My advice would be to get the 4th generation (2018) onwards if at all affordable. I’d also go with any of the petrols over the diesels, even the 1.4 as in my A180.

The interior is a lovely place to be, although don’t expect build quality to be anything special.

Just wondering how much room is there to haggle on price at Dealerships and the questions I should be asking.

If you're buying a used car from the showroom then the onus is on you to have done your research and checked what similar cars of that age/mileage/spec are selling for. You're unlikely to find yourself getting more than £1-200 off a used car in the showroom unless you can show that it's genuinely overpriced or there are defects which weren't as advertised.

I wouldn't be going in to a dealer to view a car unless I was already happy to pay the listed price, any discount is welcome but in today's market prices are fairly firm on used cars.

Best I could do on a 4 year old £18k car at a main dealer was £400 off. It was hard work.

Good used cars seem to priced correctly by most dealers these days.

A minor point but worth noting, the Q30 is based on the GLA Class not the A Class.

After a lot of deliberation I have gone for a Ford Focus 1.5 petrol ST line Estate, only 300 miles on the clock and looks the part. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to help out here.

Those Q30s are cracking value. Ultimately I think that generation A class is not that great, I’d go for an A3 or a 1 series if you want a German brand.
