Mollies near Oxford does a good drive through burger.
My faves are 7Bone, Smash, Burger Brothers, Honest Burger or Tom Kerridges Butchers Tap.
5 guys is also very respectable.
Interesting thanks, but I don't want to turn this into another generic burger thread. My faves are 7Bone, Smash, Burger Brothers, Honest Burger or Tom Kerridges Butchers Tap.

I have a specific interest in Wendy's for nostalgic reasons. I expect to be disappointed, but given everything that's (not) happening at the moment, it's another small thing to look forward to.

There used to be one in Slough back in the 80's.
Didn't they do square beefburgers or am I going mad?
There was one opposite Harrods in London back in the 80's, I was really looking forward to trying one, what a disappointment, apart from being square, just a bland bland bland.Didn't they do square beefburgers or am I going mad?

My nearest Wendy's is 3 miles away. Last time I ate there was about 8 years ago - don't get your hopes up. I prefer 5 guys, but would take red robin or texas roadhouse over both.
That's really interesting - where are Red Robin and Texas Roadhouse in the UK?
I've been America 50+ times - I've been to a Wendy's once.

Exactly. There's five guys in the uk. They're better than wendy's. There's plenty of alternatives; wendy's is very mediocre.
Personally, I don't rate 5 guys. Yes, I'll eat there. But I find it much too sloppy, and the patties don't taste great.I have fond memories of Wendy's when they were in the UK in the '80s. I used to visit the one on the Strand every payday and spend a whole month's worth of luncheon vouchers on one meal. The Chilli was a particular favourite of mine - they had the sachets of a clear liquid to up the spice level.
That's why I want to visit.
You have your own opinions on what's good and bad, and you shared some of them. The first 2 you shared weren't particularly useful as neither of them are in the UK.

I have also been to America 50+ times - and I've never visited a Wendy's whilst I was there. I did visit a 5-Guys, but that was before they opened up in the UK and I wanted to see what all of the hype was about.

The thing about burgers in the US is - you can normally get a really decent burger in a bar - so there is no reason to visit a standard burger joint. Obviously there are places that do exceptional burgers, and they are well worth seeking out.

Reading opening date is confirmed as June 2. I think I’ll have a pretzel bacon cheeseburger, baconator fries and a chocolate frosty, shortly before my massive indigestion.
Thanks for that. I googled it yesterday after it was on the BBC website and in the Sunday Times - it said "next month" but no actual date. Now I have a date.
