Good evening. I am taking my first and very tentative steps into buying and owning an old-ish 911 (around the 2005-2008 age). I know the costs that are potentially involved (and that there are likely to be some that I have not thought of too!) but I am also very excited about owning a brilliant piece of machinery - especially when compared to the lovely yet boring family Volvo I normally drive.

If anyone with more experience than me in these matters knows of any good and reliable Porsche specialist garages or dealers that they would be happy to recommend I would be very grateful. I'm based in SE London but happy to travel once lockdown restrictions wind down. And any handy tips of what to look for (or not!) also happy to receive too!

Thanks all!

Rob

What do you define as an oldish 911?

911 virgin and RSJ Porsche both get very good names. Worth checking their websites. Prices nabe a bit higher but compensated by the quality of cars and warranties. You will not regret it. If you want to get very safe Porsche themselves.

So a relatively new Porsche;)

A manual 997 C2S coupe would probably be the ideal?

Have you read up about them e.g. engine issues?

I'd try the usual Indies:

- Virgin 911 (Ivor, Bucks)
- Portiacraft (Mill Hill)
- RSJ Sportcars (Slough)
- RPM Technik (Tring)
- Ashgood (Horton)
- Cridfords
- Cameron Cars

I would add Harbour Cars, Chichester, to this list.

Have a look over on 911 UK...there is quite a very active 997 forum on there.

Bought a 997 from Charles Ivey some years back. What those guys don’t know about Porsche isn’t worth knowing, they ran a Porsche racing team for some years. Only ever have a few cars, but always spot on. Got a nice 997 manual in there now I see...
