I currently have a 2014 VW Passat, but it’s starting to give me a bit of grief and I’m wanting to replace it. Had it 5 years and clocked up 140k so I’ve had good use out of it.

Ive been looking online for last few weeks but struggling to make my mind up.

I do about 25-30k a year, mostly motorway driving, so want something economical but not too boring. Like my last car I would be planning on keeping it 5+ years so looking for something reliable for the long term

Would be looking for an automatic. Would have a budget of about £20k, but could probably stretch that a bit.

So far I’ve been considering 3 series, A4s, Kia Sportage and Tiguans.

Any other suggestions, or pros / cons of the cars I have been looking at?

Thanks

Might get a Volvo V90 or S90 with that budget - think the V90 looks pretty good

Kia Sportage would give a good warranty but maybe the Optima to consider

The Skoda Superb is another one or indeed the Kodiaq although maybe not many diesels?

Or a Jaguar XE might be within range

With that budget for a Kia I'd be more tempted by the Stinger over the Sportage, if you're looking for something interesting. They're getting well down into the low-20's now. Might not be the most economical choice, but the warranty and lack of likely borkage makes up for it for me.

Given the mileage you are likely to cover in 5 years (150k) and I am assuming the finances are a concern, I would look for the cheapest and newest diesel you can get. So, the Kia would get my vote on your list.

It depends on your not boring criteria though.

You'll get a low mile 5 series for 20k

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I had already had a look at the stinger and really liked it but the lower mpg put me off.

I will have a look through all the other options posted to see what else is out there.

Any other suggestions or tips are much appreciated

If you liked the Passat have a look at the Kia Optima Estate. My brother went from a 15 plate Passat (which he loved) to an Optima. He does 20 plus k a year and rates the Kia above the Passat. It th top model, diesel auto, but on PCP with 20k miles a year he got it for under £300 per month. I've driven it and it is lovely to drive, very different form my MX5 but as an ex multiple Passat owner as well I can see why he likes it so much.
