E92 auto diff into a manual?
Discussion
I’ve got issues with my diff, it’s whining again!
I had new bearings fitted but they only lasted a couple of weeks before whining again! Not a cheap job as the bearings are expensive.
I don’t want to go into the on going saga I’m having with the ‘specialist’ that did the job.
Anyway, I got to thinking why don’t I get another diff, hope it’s got good bearings and fit my quaife lsd into it. However, looking on eBay manual 2.35 ratio diffs are very rare and expensive but auto 2.81 ratio diffs are plentiful and a lot cheaper.
I’m wondering whether the cases are the same (3.0 diesels have a larger case than petrols) and I can just replace the pinion shaft, diff unit with crown wheel and maybe the 2 output shafts?
Anybody got any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

2.35. Is it a 330d?
I'd get a diff from a breaker and put that in it. Leave the Quaife bit out for a while, and see if the diff is okay, and then have a transmission/differential specialist transfer the Quaife Innards into it.
From your profile, you're in Donny. The below is a large BMW breakers, so hopefully will have a correct used diff in stock.

Sounds like a plan to fit one and make sure it’s healthy first.
I have used quarry a few times. They’re pretty good and being fairly local I always pick parts up.
