E63 AMG YES OR NO

Hi everyone, I’m in a position where I can buy a new car, my budget is about 20 grand. I’m 22 years old and currently own a 2014 Mini Cooper S. while that’s been a great car I’ve had it 3 years and I’m now wanting something a bit more serious, I’m living at home still so my bills are relatively low. I’m aiming to move out in about 3 years or so which means I have about 3 years of fun left lol! I don’t need a reliable sensible car I want something obnoxiously fun and while I can afford to do something like this I feel I should, rather than when I do eventually move out and think wow I should’ve really gone for something more fun while I had the chance. I have been struggling to find any up to date info on a 2013 (or around that year) E63, I love these cars, they sound amazing and look great too, however I don’t have bottomless pockets and I do have to take running costs into consideration unfortunately, can anyone give me an up to date idea of what it’ll cost to run one? I’m not expecting it to be cheap whatsoever but if it’s manageable and I can still have a social life alongside running this beast that would be ideal! Any help is greatly appreciated! If not could anyone maybe recommend something like an E63 that’s more affordable? I’m not really into modern hatchbacks like Golf Rs, even tho I have enjoyed my mini it’s not quite tickling my fancy!
How many miles will you be doing a year? This will help you determine your running costs, expect £800-1500 depending on mileage but you will get the odd 2k+ bill (brakes/tyres/gearbox service etc) I assume you're referring to the 6.2 N/A version? Do you want an E as it's big but they're still a weapon of a car.
If you want a V8 that has running costs similar to a 340i/S4 then take a look at the Lexus IS-F:

Or if you want something E Class sized then the VXR8 is a properly sensible choice, they're depreciating slower than the E63's aligned with very sensible running costs they're a bit of a no brainer if you want to have three years of fun before you become a home owner.

There's so many variables that buying the car is really the least of your concerns here.
If you're doing large mileage then running costs are going to be significant, with MPG not being the E63's strong point and any car of this marque is going to have the ability to throw up sizeable bills. If your disposable income is significant enough that you could find yourself with a £3k bill in a few months time and not suffer too much then that's great. If the £20k is to both buy the car and keep a reserve fund to foot any unfortunate bills then you're going to be going for a ropey example and that inherently brings with it the potential for more numerous big bills.
The jump from a Cooper S to an E63 is pretty dramatic, is there any particular reason you're looking for such a big upgrade?
From 20k you can get change from all of the below purchases and significantly lower running costs.

If we were looking at this as a £ per lay experiment, neither my car nor my house come anywhere close to the amount of action that travelling got me - As a white British guy in S.E Asia you're already doing well and it's more like counting the lays per £ rather than £'s per lay. Having enough money to party hard, and live like a king for a year or so on relatively little savings feels great and it's definitely something I was glad to tick off after leaving the army.I managed to do two years away for a little over £40k, the money lasted a long, long time... Until arriving in New Zealand and ticking off many, many things from my bucket list.
Boring answer is use that as a house deposit.
If you're on a good career trajectory and really just want to enjoy the 20k then spend it on whatever floats your boat.
If the 20k is a windfall and you don't want to go house deposit route, I'd be travelling and making the most of it before cracking on with a career and not really getting the opportunity to take extended periods of time off of work.

I bought a house and that never happened to me i feel cheated now. As said before id buy the house now as they are only going to get more expensive. Boring but buy the car once your a few hears into the house it gets easier with time

Just came back to check if I had any replies, didn’t quite think I’d be seeing how many shags a car vs house would get me but here we are 😂 it is solely for the enjoyment of driving and not how many girls I can fit in it (at least that’s what I tell my mum)
I’ve done lots and lots of looking around at hot hatches and I do understand it’s a big old jump from a Mini Cooper S to a E63 or C63 (looking at both options) just wanted something a bit different from your everyday hot hatch and while I’m at home I was thinking of getting something for a bit of fun and enjoyment for a couple years until I move out and then go for something more sensible.
I only do around 7k miles a year, at least that’s all I do on my current car. Mainly to work and back and to the gym, I also lift share with my friend who works with me so I drive 2 weeks out of 4 every month so MPG wasn’t a huge issue for me. It’s mainly the costs of servicing, how often it would need servicing, I’m aware there’s an A and B service but price seems to vary a lot and is it worth taking it to Mercedes or maybe a specialist? Brakes need doing but how often roughly? Tyres etc etc. Insurance i was quoted £960 for the year which I thought was pretty good, all things considered.
Just trying to see if it’s at all affordable to run this car as my daily while also being able to go pub or go out with me mates every now n then and not completely sink my wage packet into the car which sounds like having your cake and eating it which it probably is 😂👍🏻

Well I have a mate who has an AMG SUV. Took it for a service needed 4 airbags and brakes 6 grand all in. So they’re not cheap to run. BTW 20 grand could get you an N/A C63? It also could get you an M4

Doing 7k a year means you'll be doing a yearly service, you could have bills as low as £500-1000, the brakes aren't something you'll go through quickly in most cases but trackdays will eat them up. Find a good specialist rather than a main dealer I've found they tend to do a more thorough job.If you went for something like the Lexus then their main dealer servicing costs are similar to a Mercedes Indy the VXR8 is the cheapest & simplest to maintain, all will still put a smile on your face.
My OH loved her C63 & I still have my CLK63 the engine is a beast of a unit, out of the two I'd go for the C63.
