I'm asking this for a friend, he has an E46 convertible and the electric seat has stopped moving back and forward and all other directions, the headrest still moves though. The buttons still seem to operate the relay as you can hear a slight click but nothing happens. Is there a central module that might be faulty or is it another common fault.

Cheers.

If you can hear relays clicking I would say the controls are OK, you need to be looking at fuses/wiring/motors.

Scotty, these are known for the wires breaking.

Unfortunately there is no easy fix for them.

When you have the seat out they are an easy repair but getting the seat out will be a nightmare if the anchor bolts are covered.

Don’t switch the ignition on either with the seat out or you will trigger an airbag fault.

Cheers, I was hoping it was a common problem, I think he is coming round on Saturday so we will whip the seat out and have a look.

We had a go at this this morning, no joy. The problem is the seat won't move backwards or forwards and the seat is in such a position that its covering the bolts that hold it to the floor.

The car has apparently been to a specialist to look at the problem and he has adjusted the seat so its not all the way forwards by presumably shoving 12V direct to the motor as the multi plug is not plugged in any more.

Strange thing is I can see the female equivalent of where it should plug back in but the two plugs won't reach each other, its almost as if there should be a short cable in-between them.

Does anyone know if its just the one motor that controls the forward and back movement or one per side as there is a toothed track on each rail, I don't want to end up moving one side and not the other. Also anyone know which wired do which in the multi plug, there is a thick black, blue and white wire and two thinner wires which I assume is an end stop sensor.
