Well it's happened, they've been experiencing earthquakes lately so expecting this.

Last time a big eruption was in the news I missed a few flights, not likely to effect me this time though.

Different type of eruption this time. More like a Hawaiian “oooh isn’t that pretty” eruption that a Dante’s Peak “drive drive drive” one.

Effusive is the word I think.

I'm waiting for Katla to blow up, just in time for the summer holidays....
I watched something on TV about it a while back. There's a team of scientists monitoring it & they reckoned if it blows, there will be a humongous ash cloud, causing massive problems for aviation, extreme weather events that could last for years, causing drought/famine/assorted other unpleasantness.

Livestream. Quietish (effusive) so far, but worth keeping an eye on. It's in a bad place to get much worse, very close to Reykjavik and major infrastructure.

Last time it happened I got ‘stuck’ in Jamaica for an extra 10 days.

It was terrible. Just terrible.

Well, the BBC are making a big thing of no foreign holidays this year. Volcano eruptions, or no volcano eruptions.

So it can seemingly go ballistic and it may make Sid all difference.

Well unless you're an Icelander. I remember the Vestmannaejyar eruption in 1973? - lot of very worried people there then, and that was provincial in comparison to the current location. Just hope it stays minor.

It’s not under ice which is always a good thing and appears to be a fissure so the prospect of an explosive eruption is surely very small. The whole peninsula down there is just barren lava fields which suggests its not somewhere badly affected by the sort of eruptions that can occur further east.

If Icelanders aren’t worried I wouldn’t be, they’re a fairly sensible bunch.

I've seen them inflate tyres by use of propane and fire, marvellous sense of humour, but sensible...?

I've been pretty close to where it is, it's a decent distance from Reykjavik.

Not like the volcano on the Vestmannaeyjar, which was pretty much in the town.

Ha it worked didn’t it? I guess when you live with the threat of explosive eruptions and jökulhlaups with the power of all of the worlds largest rivers combined you develop a slightly different attitude towards risk and danger. Maybe sensible was the wrong word, pragmatic kinda means the same thing but allows for a bit pissing around with propane so let’s go with that.

I live in Bali - we’ve had Mount Agung puffing away on and off over last few years.

Had a few flights cancelled here and there.

As a precaution a 12km exclusion zone is in place. Villagers moved out etc etc.

Best treat it with caution, what with all the hot stuff these things are known to chuck out......unless you are an Instagram ‘influencer’.

Then the best course of action in to ignore the exclusion zone (a criminal offense), climb up and take photos with your legs dangling over the crater.

Then protest when you get arrested on the way down, fined and deported.

Not just one ‘influencer’ but several.

Unfortunately none of them actually died, bodies preserved in stone for posterity etc.

Shame as I do enjoy a decent Instagram death by stupidity story...and we get plenty here.

‘Hash tag’ sorrymumnohelmet.....was one a few years ago. You can probably guess what happened the next day.
