Wearing a mask to collect your kid from primary school

A few weeks ago , my lads headteacher sent out a letter reccommending that parents wear a mask when collecting and dropping off their kids.
As it was reccommended only, I was one of only a handful that didn't.
I didnt see the point as you walk by yourself across the playground to where the kids are waiting, and yours is then ushered towards you, and you both walk out through the car park. Kids don't wear them, the teachers don't wear them.
When I picked my lad up Friday, I counted only one other dad not wearing one. As I got near to my son, the head teacher turned and looked at me. I said good afternoon and she looked visibly put out, and just smiled back.
Yesterday in her weekly letter, she has now announced that masks for parents are mandatory as soon as we walk through the gates. At no time fo we go in the building, and people keep their distance from each other , so In an open air environment with teachers not wearing them, how an this be compulsory ?
To add that the school work sent out over the last 3 months of lockdown was a disgrace at his school compared to others, this has just made my p 1ss boil.

We’re not allowed on the school grounds of my daughter’s primary school, we have to wait at a certain gate (they’ve created 4 of them for different years). The head sent an email to ask that we ensure adherence to social distancing whilst we wait (although a fair few parents don’t seem to bother), the kids are then brought to the gate when it’s time to leave. No mention of masks
In regards to your question, then I guess they can mandate whatever they want on school property, and they want to be overly careful so they can’t be blamed if there’s a Covid case, I get that, it’s the way the world seems to work these days, it takes 1 case and an unhappy parent to start a legal case that the school didn’t show a duty of care.
If you object that much, then why not just pick him up from the gate and not go into school property?

Her mistake was in only 'recommending' it to start with, she'll be getting it in the neck from parents who have opted in but can see others who haven't. I do agree that wearing masks in the situation you describe is unnecessary, and she can't make you, but she can ban you from the site.
They've always been required at my daughter's school premises since return in September. Similar scenario to yours you don't go anywhere near any staff and you're stood outside with other parents, while they've staggered start and finish times any distancing from other parents is difficult.
Compliance is high accept the lanyard wearers. A bit like wearing one in a supermarket I don't like doing it mainly due to the fact that wearing a peice of cloth vs a properly fitted mask does bugger all-if they were so effective why the autumn/winter resurgence. If it makes the staff etc feel a bit safer I'll do it. Hope they go completely this year though.

Assuming the school services under 11’s who aren’t subject to mask wearing by law, it’s all a load of theatre.So my 6 year old spends all day in a classroom, no mask but when I have to pick up, I have to wear one for approximately 2 minutes? Wtf. Kids exempt from catching/spreading?

Same at my daughter's school for months, it's only a few minutes a day and it can get quite crowded around drop off and pick up times. They work hard to keep the schools running and the kids learning, and any cases will mean whole bubbles having to isolate so they want to prevent that if they can.

Pointless or not, I really don’t get why the U.K. are so intolerant to sticking a mask on their face for a few minutes every so often. On the continent these have been mandatory outside of ones home non stop and it’s complied with by the majority. In the U.K. many seem compelled to post on the internet or question the policies of any institution that dare suggest visitors to their property must comply. I’d far rather a school to any children I had exercised excess caution than the other way.

Just ignore it. All the people telling you to just do it also think it's acceptable to force a vaccine into your arm against your wishes. Disgusting people.As it was reccommended only, I was one of only a handful that didn't.

No they don't.But if you want to come into my house you're going to do so according to my rules even if you disagree with them.
It's not a difficult concept.
