2015 X1 2.0d x-drive

Wife got home and when taking the key out of the dash we get this message. Actually we get the amber vehicle on ramp graphic on the dash binnacle and then get this message on the i-drive screen when the ignition is switched on. Car then won't start. Open door, shut, lock and then open and it starts first time scratchchin

For bonus points, there are some mitigating circumstances!

1/ She was driving home from BMW main dealer after a service and MOT! On contacting them they said it did it after sanitising but as it didn't do it again they didn't think to mention to us and didn't show up as a fault.

2/ Checked the battery and although it fires up fine it was only on one bar on the charger (so it's charging now)

3/ Battery went flat just before the schools went back, could be scuppered as the car has had months of inactivity during lockdowns-charged up and was fine after that. Car was last driven on Friday so shouldn't have gone flat without a fault over two days.

4/ The car has comfort access which has never really worked properly for a couple of years. It went for service in 2019 and I told her to get them to look into it. Either they didn't bother their arses or she forgot to mention it. When I drove it months later it still wasn't working and was by then out of warranty rolleyes

Tried pulling a couple of fuses that the internets suggested may disable comfort access but it doesn't even start with them removed.

Main dealer are going to do a diagnostics as a gesture of goodwill seeing as they didn't mention the fault to us on picking it up and then we couldn't get it to start once home but we can't get it in (as long as it's still working) until next week now.

Comfort access module jiggered which is draining the battery? Battery kaput which is faulting an immobiliser or steering lock? Something else completely?

new battery needed my guess, but needs fault read on computer. Read could be IBS sensor too.

Fault has now deteriorated, took numerous attempts to get it going after work and then again whilst picking the kids up.

Got it home and when I looked at it the battery was flat again. Wouldn’t start.

Plugged it back in to the charger and then got it started and over to BMW for its complimentary diagnostic which will be done tomorrow now.

I suspect the battery is draining and knackered but to drain in 8 hours is some going so rather than just swap out the battery I’d rather they at least check for a fault to see if there is something else goosed which is draining it.

I'm going with a knackered battery on the car throwing up a spurious fault.
