Today I left my RA in my car as usual covered up by a poster while at work. On leaving work it failed to find any satilites at all on my 35 min journey home. Is it possible that ive cooked my unit and melted the internal aerial or something?

Electrical things don't like extreme heat. I doubt you've damaged it, just let it cool down a bit.

Happens quite often with mine as well - seems to have a problem at bootup from time to time and can take a long time to find a fix or not manage it at all. My Tom Tom GO is usually much better - in fact I have seen the TTG showing 5 or 6 satellites when the RA shows none.

Best thing to do is 'switch off'- ie unplug - leave it a few seconds and then plug in again. Mostly works. Once I had to do it twice.

I have also know the the GPS system to be out of action for a while - 20mins at least on one morning. Both RA and TTG affected.

As for cooking it .. left mine mounted pointing into the sun all day on a hot day a couple of weeks ago. So hot I could hardly tough it when I remembered. It had melted the glue on the rubber pad of the windscreen mount to the point where the power cable had pulled the unit round about 30 degrees and the rubber was sliding off the bracket. Still works OK - just as OK as before.
