Please Forgive my lack of technical knowledge chaps -
My wife has just started a new job for which she’s been supplied a brand new surface pro and a new monitor
The monitor is connected to the surface pro via the usb-c port on the side of the surface to the monitors vga port - works fine
Everything else ( keyboard mouse foot pedal etc)is connected to a usb hub which connects to the surface via to the normal USB port
Is it possible to connect another monitor up without going to the expense of a surface dock 2 @ £250 so she can work across both screens simultaneously?
If I were to get a usb-c to 2x hdmi adapter could I then just hook both monitors up using the hdmi and will they work independently or just mirror each other ?
TIA
The newly supplied monitor has a multitude of connection point on the back - hdmi vga display port and 2 usb
The other monitor we’d like to use just has vga and hdmi

Also on a more general note why isn’t there some standardisation of the ports and connections ffs with different usb, hdmi ,mini hdmi ,display port ,mini display port, vga etc etc just gets bloody confusing
Thanks

This should do what you need at a reasonable Price.

DisplayPort (or Mini) seems to be the Standard these Days.

I would just get a docking station like this and just have everything ( monitors, keyboard, mouse etc) plugged into it. It’ll be a lot neater.

If you extend the USB-C capabilities beyond one port then you should be able to have two external monitors from USB-C via a hub. I have one screen driven from my Pro with a USB-C to HDMI cable; you could also do USB-C to USB-C if your monitor supports it and you have the cables.

You could get an original surface dock on ebay for about 50 quid and use mini dp to hdmi cables for the 2 monitors.
