We get a scam call most mornings. Usual MO (Amazon, Microsoft etc). I usually just string them a long for about 5 minutes just to waste their time.
The wife wants it to stop as it's getting earlier each day, so is there a way of blocking calls from India/overseas, or are they spoofed as UK numbers?
Alternatively is there a very offensive word or phrase I can use to annoy them?

I agree OP. These scammers are a real nuisance and if you believe the consumer programs they are getting away with thousands by defrauding the vulnerable and elderly.
I would have no legitimate calls from India and would like to opt out of all calls from India, I have asked my phone company to help but got the two fingers from Virgin.

This is the main reason we dont have a landline phone! The combination of scam calls and people ringing up for the previous owners (even after several years), along with being able to have more control over calls on a mobile phone means its currently absent.
Emails on the other hand seem to be getting worse! I must get 10-15 a day, around a third of these get past the spam filter... annoying!

I now use the ansaphone to vet all landline calls. Scammers hang up if it's an ansaphone and legitimate callers will leave a message. Over time the number of calls will drop as it's not a 'live' line. If you answer the phone then the scammers know that it's a live number and will continue to ring it and pass on the number to others.
I also have caller display and ability to block numbers. Sometimes I pick the handset up and replace it straight away if the phone ringing is intrusive.

I am up to 30 spam emails a day, most seem to be targetted at America or are from Julia who has many private messages for me and cannot type an email without heart emoticons aparently.Emails on the other hand seem to be getting worse! Situtaion has become much worse since I bought some shaving stuff online, they deny any fault.
We still keep a landline as backup, as mobile signal is hit and miss in the house.
We have the calls go straight through voicemail, genuine callers will leave a message and we would pick up if required.
Regarding those who has lots of spam mail, I would check where your email was used. I have 3 sets of emails, work, personal and disposable.
Work is strictly for work only, personal is for family and friends, banking etc and the disposable is used for social media, forums etc. This cuts down the spam, and in a way is more secure.

I also get lots of spam text massages telling me my paypal/itumes has been hacked, I am due a refund for something, I owe a small amount of money for a parcel delivery or my TV licence/Car Tax payment has bounced.
My parents even got an email for their Covid jab that spoofed the NHS website but then suddenly required credit card details......
It's getting crazy now, I have told my parents not to trust anything anymore.

With BT or Plusnet, you just dial 1572 after a nuisance call, press a couple of menu numbers, and that number is blocked from calling you again.
And Talktalk too. After they changed my number when going to fibre I only gave that number to one person as everyone had my mobile, started getting scammers call it so put the blocker on it and it hasn't rung since. Bliss.Chubbyross said:
Ditch your landline. It’s the best way. Even if you block the number they’ll just come back on another. Mobile prices are so competitive these days it can be financially viable.
This may be the answer, however there are still a few people who call us on it like our GP.We also keep it as a back up to mobiles as we have had a situation with one person locked out, and the other person asleep with their mobile dead.
That said we now have a Google doorbell which "rings" the Google mini Ihe bedroom so maybe it is time to ditch the landline.

They're not limited to landlines. Some networks are worse than others for keeping their customer data in a colander, but there are plenty of nuisance calls on mobiles too. Easy to block, but they still have to get through once to identify themselves.
