Good morning all,

I am a "not too bad" DIY mechanic, but pretty rubbish at taking care of the bodywork of my cars...maybe that's why I bought some with already scratches on them tongue out

Anyway, I recently repainted the wheel arches of my car due to rust (Mazda MX5 - Light grey color) and repainted them with rust protection + etch primer + Hammerite light grey (good enough for the arches biggrin).
Sadly, I thought I protected the bodywork well enough, but when removing the newspaper, I realized that I have few "patches" (approx. 5x5 cm) of primer on the bodywork of the car :/

I did some research, but I am kind of lost between how harsh the polish need to be (if it is polish I need?), how to apply it (I only have my hands), if I need to use sandpaper (1500? wet ?) before, and how to protect it after (wax?).
Youtube is now, to my mind, a mess: too many informations, too many videos, to many "sponsored" ones....

So I thought of here smile Just need a good result, doesn't need to be amazing at all smile Just trying to improve my DIY skills and bought some products I can re-use after smile

Thanks a lot !

Assuming that the oversprayed patches weren't keyed beforehand, you may want to try a claybar as your first step.

Thanks for your feedbacks !

To give more details:
- The etch primer was applied by can
- The primer in "unwanted area" is on original paint (I guess biggrin)

Quick removal involves thinner on a rag.
Downside is it could take lots of other stuff with it.

Bit slower is 'Clutch & brake cleaner'.
Not as aggressive as thinner but can still take other stuff with it.

Much slower is compound on a polishing cloth. Use the cloth on your finger much the same as bulling boots/shoes (if you don't know what that is ask any member of your family that has been in the services smile )
More precise & it takes much longer but you have the option of instantly stopping if it starts taking other stuff off.

Hi,

Thanks for the ideas! Did try the clay yesterday, and despite being amazing at what can be removed on a light grey car, the primer paint stayed... I also tried a light polish I had at hand, but didn't do anything to that...

Will try the other ideas then wink Thanks !
