Honda Civic Type R Fn2

Afternoon / morning

I hope you are all okay , recently i posted about spending around £4000 on a hot hatch, i had a lot of mixed opinions.

people where saying i should keep the money and save for a house... and other said i should buy one. i have decided to save up around £6000 and then buy a hot hatch.

I'm looking at the HONDA Fn2 , I'm seeing them on eBay for around 4-5k some with a lot of mileage.
I just have a couple of question... again haha , me being not so wise as you fine gentlemen ( maybe ladies ) i would like some advice.

also has covid affected the price of cars at all?

Are the FN2 still reliable with such high mileage with 100k plus miles? i will be driving down to London , not so much but sometimes to see the girlfriend and i don't want it conking out on me ( if it does ) some examples below

Covid has affected prices - less used cars in the market and dealers have to pay more for decent stock. £6000 is a good budget. I had a Civic Type S GT of that generation and while it looked good it had a lot of stupid faults with things like failed wiper motors, folding door mirrors, temp sensor and much more. Later cars should be much better in that sense (after 2009 I think the facelift was). Scirocco 2.0 GTs would also be available and feel a better quality car, might even be able to get a nice Alfa Brera but as with any older vehicles there’s plenty that can go wrong. Probably worth getting an RAC inspection.

Also check the CD player of a Civic if you do still use CDs - the heating vents were right above the unit which could overheat and break it. That generation had loads of daft niggles. It was a great looking car inside and out though, but as I say facelift cars would be better

I used to own one. My advice would be to drive one first, the suspension is very stiff, I felt I had to driver slower than other cars or something would break. The rear wing goes across the window at exactly the right height to cover the headlights of the car behind so every time you go over a bump the following car appears to flash its lights. On top of that there is no rear wiper, so don't expect to be able to see anything out the back when it's raining. I also found the seat to be very uncomfortable and I'm not exactly powerfully built. The engine and gearbox are brilliant though, I think the post 2009 models got an LSD as standard too.

Not a type R but I'm on my second 2008 Civic now, both 1.8 petrol. The first one I had from 2015 72k miles to 2019 110k miles. The air con compressor failed which cost c. 300 quid to replace but other than that was faultless. Was still very economical on a long journey too with mid 40s mpg on the motorway.

I replaced it with a similar, higher specced Civic with 66k miles in 2019 which my FiL was selling. He'd owned from about 10k miles I think. Its brilliant and touch wood, everything works.

My son has recently bought a champion white one, he loves it but thinks it is quite heavy on fuel.

He had a Mk5 Golf gti previously and I prefer them to the Civic.
The v-tech noise is quite addictive. Boot is quite big.

I think there 2 ways about getting one, either get a high mile car for 3k and use the rest to fix thing if anything were to need doing, or spend a bit more and buy one that’s Lower mile. I don’t think there too much to worry about with the engine being a k20
