Hi,

Looking for something I can put 7 year old son and a dog on back seats and fit a couple of bikes in the boot rather than the faff of bike racks. Budget is c.£5k as this will be our second "runaround" car so don't want to spend too much.

Concluded an S Max would be ideal as bikes will fit with front wheel removed (or without removing wheel with 1 of 3 second row seats dropped), cheap parts and a decent steer. Trouble is they are all diesel and I'd much prefer petrol as car will do lots of short journeys that would no doubt soon create DPF issues.

Can anyone think of any petrol options please. I guess there are the VW Group products but would need to tread carefully as had the timing chain tensioner headache with a Golf TSi in the past.

Or am I mad considering a 7 seater for a family of 3+dog and better off just sticking a bike rack on a hatchback?

Thanks.

We had an original Galaxy when the kids were younger, brilliant bit of kit, could get 3 adult MTB’s in with just removing front wheels & carry 3 people to ride them.

How about a Zafira? Poor image & nowhere near as much fun to drive but very cheap & practical.
