M40 on-ramp action
Discussion
So, this is a question about on ramps.
This onramp in particular, but on-ramps in general. Infact fast bends in general.

M25 -> M40 London
You should be able to go around this quite fast, but I lose my nerve at about 65mph, maybe 70mph. The curve tightens at the end but also there is a dip in the road, then a slight rise, then a slight dip. I always worry that if I go too fast over the rise, I'll get some air.
I wonder, am I just crap and should be able to do this comfortably at 85mph? Or if I lose weight on the tyres at the top of the rise, would this result in a trip into the ditch?

I used to enjoy taking this one as a daily challenge to see how quickly I could get round it...

I'm guessing it was a bit more than the 30mph recommended speed? https://goo.gl/maps/DBK2opRWQNfUu4gJ6

I find right handers psychologically much easier at speed than left. It's all about if you come off, you could slide into oncoming traffic. and on a right hander hopefully it's less painful with less furniture. Apart from an armco, which obviously sweeps you up and slows you to a nice half with no broken bones.
Just fix on the limit point as much as you can

Yeah don't worry I get the same feeling!
I've never done that off-ramp M25 -> M40 Eastbound, but do quite enjoy M25 -> M40 Westbound
Yup, I know that one. The M25->M40 East is a lot more tricky. It's the undulations which threaten to give you a bit of air followed immediately by the tightening curve. Another good one is M25->M3 London bound; this one is a right hander and there will often be traffic in the other lane. Try it out I've never done that off-ramp M25 -> M40 Eastbound, but do quite enjoy M25 -> M40 Westbound

This was always a nice one going from Exeter towards Torquay

That's the M25 > M3 Southbound. It also has a 50mph average camera on it which doesn't help much.
https://goo.gl/maps/XehT3k5ne4amATA58An old colleague used to have an NC30 and would always blitz his tyres round the M4 junctions with Slough and the A329 at Reading. No chicken strips there!

One of the newer on ramps to the M8 to Edinburgh is always fun..

Strange how others think the same.
I have driven this onramp to the M5 at Avonmouth many times but never on the bike. always wondered how fast is enough on the bike
Must try harder to find out

I assume you meant "to a nice halt"?Edited by TimmyMallett on Thursday 25th March 10:33
Unless the armco has filler plates over the posts, this is a more likely scenario:
Apart from an armco, which obviously sweeps you up and slices you into nice halves with some broken bones.

A few years back I was following a bike that hit a deer and watched in very slow motion slide down the road towards a combine harvester. He came to a stop about a foot short of the front wheels. Proper "Sh*************tttttttttt....." moment.
