Seeing some stuff on social media that an RN Hawk has crashed out of Culdrose.
SAR was active near Mawnan.

--Edit--

736 Sqd Hawk, both crew ejected and no fatalities.

Apparently 2 ejected. Newquay SAR have landed on just west of Helford, I believe air ambulance is also there.

One of the cobham jets had circled the crash site a few times before departing.

Press now reporting minor injuries.

Wonder what the cause was?

There has been a lot of Hawk activity the last few weeks, been good to see them about.

It started squawking emergency as it turned out to sea and looked to be RTB.

SAR has gone to Plymouth Derriford (normally more critical casualties but hopefully just to check compression injuries after ejection) and helimed looks to be heading back to base.

Definitely hope so, I bet they have a good look at you under MRI/CT after an ejection.

I watched the emergency on FR24. When I started looking he was declaring an emergency at about 6000ft right over RAF Culdrose. I wonder why he didn't just circle and land? Perhaps he still had some thrust at that point but you think you'd just get it down (obviously I'm not an expert and the AAIB will tell us what happened eventually).

Maybe the controls were wonky or something?

I don't think the AAIB cover military events.

It would be the Defence AIB I think.

Too great a risk of dropping it on someone or putting the runway out of use. Much better to point it at the ocean and hope you make it, at 6000ft, a Hawk won’t glide that far.... I’ve seen “flame out” scenarios on the simulator and it’s not like gliding a 737 into the Hudson River

Great example of an immediate response to a power loss situation - trade speed for height. As soon as something goes wrong the nose is pitched up; speed will decline obviously but the altitude gained and resultant extension in glide range can make all the difference.
