Possible New Tow Car

We currently have a touring caravan (happy to take all of the stick) and a 2017 Octavia VRS 245.
Love the Octavia, but we are currently looking to upgrade the caravan and the Octavia is a little on light side compared with the caravans we are looking at. (Although i think the Octavia is plated as being able to tow 1,800kg, i believe it is illegal to have a caravan heavier than the tow car, so car is only 1,365kg which restricts us somewhat.
If we change the car than i can use it to get something a bit quicker anyway, trouble is, everything that i look it isn't approved for towing.
Audi RS4, BMW M5, C63 AMG, Even VXR8, none of these are legally allowed to tow,
The only thing that i can find that i think can legally tow is an RS6 although i would be looking at the V8 which are close to £40k, and my budget is £25k tops.
Any ideas for anything that is a bit interesting, can tow and is quick?
No SUV's please as i hate them with a passion.

Nope. Although it may be unwise.The recommendation (and it is only that) is to tow no more than 85% of the kerbweight of the tow vehicle. So if the Octavia is 1365kg, caravan should weigh about 1160kg or so. You may find its perfectly capable of towing more without any scary moments though.
Keep in mind that your caravan has an MTPLM, but you're (probably) unlikely to be towing that much. Say its a MIRO of 1100kg and MTPLM of 1300 you might only be towing at say 1200kg, so the Octavia isn't a bad match at that point.

I know you hate SUVs but I went from towing with an Avensis estate to an XC90 and the difference was night and day.
The Avensis wasn't a bad towcar if a little under powered but the added confidence the XC90 gave and stability was vast.
Estates don't make the best towcars mainly because of their long overhang.
Personally I would got for either an X5 (great on road ability)

Get rid of the caravan, and buy the car you really want to rag to your selected holiday hotel or AirBnB rental.
Audi RS4, BMW M5, C63 AMG, VXR8 all become more enticing when you have nothing hanging off the back.
If you cannot part with the caravan, buy yourself a big heavy 4x4 to drag it out of muddy caravan parks....or better still cross country romps TG style :-0

A Caravan owner who hates SUV’s. My new soulmate. Caravan holidays in continental Europe (we now drive to Italy, Spain etc and stay in luxury caravan / mobile homes) are great. Whilst I haven’t had a caravan for a while (I will get another one at some stage), I always maintain that large estates and saloons with either RWD or 4WD make the best tow cars. Typical examples are the ubiquitous A6, 5 Series XF. This is based on experience. The reason why I know they make better tow cars is that they are by definition more planted to the road. With an SUV they are often high with more wind going under the vehicle, and hitting the lower front of the caravan causing instability.
Confusing this how much you are allowed to tow . Always thought you couldnt exceed the kerbweight of you car and then the plated max tow weight .
Most big Suv,s have a max tow weight of 3500kgs yet they weigh alot less?
The 85% is old hat and said a guide that was more to do with no safety devices, now with anti sway and caravan stabilizers etc much more safe.

Volvo V90 2.0h T8 Twin Engine, weighs 2022kg 299bhp plus 87 hp equivalent electric motor, the depreciation will be crazy though.

Trouble is i don't really like getting 'the next thing down' as i'd always be think i wish i had the top model. Also , these models usually depreciate much quicker than the likes of the RS and M models.

In which case go for the S8 as there's no model above it & as I said the S8 comes with almost RS levels of power (515bhp) you can tow & you won't have the depreciation.Trouble is i don't really like getting 'the next thing down' as i'd always be think i wish i had the top model. Also , these models usually depreciate much quicker than the likes of the RS and M models.
