Afternoon all

Long time lurker 1st time poster in this forum

Thought i would share my journey with my 2007 Honda Civic Type R FN2, this was purchased from a guy i work with that had lost heart with it,

It has been trapped underground in a carpark for over 2 years as the battery had died and the drivers door lock was broken meaning he couldnt get in it to move it or open the bonnet, and not being car minded he wanted rid of it
As you can see it is rather dirty and needs a clean
I managed to purchase the car for scrap value £150 and went to fetch it,
Got underneath and managed to give the battery enough juice to open the passenger door with the remote control
Drove it home with various rattles and what sounded like a supercharger,
Started going through the various jobs that needed doing to put it back on the road

Jobs so far

Super charger whine = V belt tensioner nearly collapsed and very noisy and most of the pulleys

Coolant leak by intake manifold = All coolant pipes very brittle and like hard plastic

Noisy N/S/F corner = Collapsed front passenger shock absorber, Quite dangerous as it turns out

Drivers door stuck shut = All cables and door lock mechanism broken

General looking like an ashtray inside and smelling like one and a few suspicious burn marks (hot rocks)

Never been washed or polished or vacced

Plan is to get it down to my local Garage and get it past the MOT and use it as my daily

Bargain!! Even if you ended up throwing £2k at the car to fix it up you would be quids in.

That'll be a great daily once sorted.

Can you imagine if you properly went to town on it? Full seat out interior carpet shampooer clean and polish with a random orbiter buffer.

I would personally do that just to see his reaction.

Nice. Sell the cat, replace with a sports cat and you’re up!

What a bargain!

With a bit of love that'll be great as a daily or worth a couple of grand. Looking forward to the updates!

That’s an absolute bargain and it gives you some head room to get it sorted and still be quids in.

Nothing sounds too terminal.

That’s a nice cheap project start point

Many years ago I bought a Mitsi FTO 2.0 V6 with a manual box for £100 because it seemed like I couldn’t lose - I was quite wrong and cheap project cars don’t end up cheap cars

Good luck.
Wonder what kind of dodgy objects will be found whilst cleaning the interior ?

To be honest, it never being cleaned is probably better than some muppet rubbing a gritty sponge over it every weekend.

You could have that totally sorted with fresh suspension, tyres and a full service (all fluids, belts etc) and still sell it for a profit.

Good work!

Who the hell leaves a car for 2 years in a car park and doesn’t call someone out to sort it in all that time rofl I’ve watched RAC break in to an old car of mine using air bags and a long/thing piece of metal. Bread and butter for breakdown guys.

Surely it cost more than that in car park fees?

True, It's been far too many years since I picked up a car for £150 and none of those were anywhere near as good as a FN2 Type R.

This is a really good opportunity to do things "right" by getting it completely serviced, new tyres , probably new bushes and you will have a sorted Type R for barely the cost of the cheapest ones on the market that all look like could have a good grand thrown at them to be problem free.
