Hi everyone, just signed up to the website
I have a 335d that I have mapped, I now need to stop it, the brakes are standard at the moment, I'm not a fast driver generally but when I do I need confidence in the brakes, I've heard of Mintex drilled/grooved and vented discs, yellow/green/red stuff ect pads, could anyone advise please, many thanks

If it’s an E9x model these came with larger brakes as standard (also fitted to LCI 330ds). I’ve found them up to the job when gen BMW brakes or similar are fitted.

I'm a big fan of ATE 'Powerdisc' discs and their Ceramic pads; very good at stopping from cold; more aggressive than OEM but not stupidly so and very little dust.

ATE are an OEM manufacturer too smile

EBC pads are very good IMO, I'm a fan of their Yellowstuff pads; but the likes of Ferodo DS2500s are excellent also. They pair very well with OEM blank discs too; discs don't have to be grooved/C Hook, drilled etc

Not really sure who make the best aftermarket discs & pads for your car; there'll be plenty of info on Google etc. But it's really all down to budget and what you want to spend.

One thing I will recommend is braided brake lines from HEL; they give a much better feel to the braking; but again, others will swear that OEM lines are absolutely fine. It's very much a personal preference

I 'think' your OEM brakes are Brembo, but could be wrong...

I'd personally stick to blank discs and go for the likes of EVC Yellowstuff pads...

Have a look on EBC Brakes website and see what they offer

Avoid EBC pads. They are not very good, as they have to have the "road legal" markings they are not that good for really hard use

I'd go with Mtec discs, they are good, you can just get grooved or J hook, avoid the drilled ones

For pads you can look at

PBS
RS29 (loud and dusty but work insanely well)
Mintex M1144 or M1155

Plus fresh fluid. With the above you should have a lot more confidence on your brakes

There's nothing up with EBC pads; I and many, many others have used them for years and they've been absolutely fine, very good indeed... Unless you're talking about years back when their compounds were all to st, I can understand that. But now, their Yellowstuff pads are superb for fast road etc

Agree re Mtec brakes; they're very good. But the OP needs to ensure that they do the correct discs for what's needed (unless if his current discs are floating etc); Mtec's discs tend to be one piece

And again, agree re going grooved or C hook; no need for drilled/grooved etc...

I went for the mtech c hook discs for my 535d which is heavier than your car and smaller discs, but by Christ it stops well now. I got tired of the standard ste discs and upgraded them. They’re cheaper than the Brembo by quite a margin but they are all iron so slightly heavier. I partnered them up with the mintex. The only downside is they’re noisier.

We put ebc Yellows in our old drift car and they melted. Not a good pad.

But up to him I guess. I'd never put them in my car but that's just my opinion

He would have the faux 2 piece discs on the 370mm setup.

You have the larger brakes than me, I have the 340mm Brembos on the front and slightly smaller single piston on the rear. Have you changed the suspension? Since I have done that, I have found the car to stop nose diving under braking and the brakes much more suitable.

If I am correct, larger discs just dissipate heat quicker so are more fade resistant.

+1 on regular fluid changes, the difference will be noticeable. Brake fluid is hygroscopic so will absorb moisture and reduce the boiling point, ultimately reducing feel.

That's a 'drift' car; you cannot compare a drift car (and the loads it'll need to take) to an every day road going car and normal every day road going braking...

I'd never recommend Yellowstuff for anything more than fast road driving; that, they do very well with. But anything like track days etc; I'd always go Ferodo personally...
