My beautiful wife said she would treat me to a sensible car for my 60th on May 1st.
Budget set, search began, there were tremendous difficulties as I could not pick even a type.
Night after night I trawled used cars for sale, do I want a coupe, estate, suv... I don’t know.
Ruled Alfa out, had 23, still got 2.
This popped up reasonably local, spoke to the seller, did my checks, all ok.
Went to view this morning, had a quick spin a few times round the block, all is well, poked around under the bonnet, checked underneath, checked the large amount of receipts and paperwork, service history fully stamped.
Wrestled over the price, settled on £2100, I’m happy with that, the car has under 100k, just had all the belts done, long mot, auto box smooth as silk and the winner for me, heated seats work.
Deposit paid and balance just transferred.
The downside, after I get it home tomorrow I can’t have it until 1/5/21 :-(

I sold my late mum’s t5 s40 last year for about £1500 or less with 40k miles on it
It was a cat-c due to a minor bump which was repaired mainly by replacing one door.

T-Sport, T5. There's a theme? An old Ford next?

The red Toyota has gone?

And a 1993 Alfa 155, then there is the Alfa GT and the 1983 xj900f Yamaha.
Toyota is still here, might sell everything but the T5.

Collected this morning, used Cuvva, got 1 hrs insurance for £8.
Drove great and has wife approval...as it’s a ‘sensible’ car.

Excellent looking car and a bargain! Should you be tempted these respond very well to a remap and it boosts the power to around 260bhp with ease.

Well done with the T5.

I have a C30 Volvo, bought to replace a much missed Alfa 156 JTDM 150 that just rusted away....!

I would love a T5 S40/C30 but I wanted to try and reduce my car outgoings, so I now have a C30 1.6D Drive-E R Design ( I wish they would use simpler names!)

I am very impressed with the C30, the handling is really good, with quick precise steering which is well weighted despite being electric, the brakes are so much better than my diesel Alfa, and the interior is 'nice' but nowhere near the Alfa in terms of quality and finish...in particular the gear surround which is like yours, and is very prone to dings/dents etc as it is only very thin aluminium. Same as the door trim surround near the buttons etc

My C30 was bought 2 years ago, it's a 2010 facelift model, had only 33,000 on it from a main Volvo dealer, it now has about 68,000 and averages about 42 mpg, which is nowhere near the claimed 60mpg !!! Best I have ever had was about 54 mpg on the day I bought it 200 miles away when I was quite gentle with it !

The T5 is a real Q-Car, they look so innocent but have that amazing engine. In fact most people don't have a clue !

I would be tempted, especially as I really miss my Alfa 156 which was remapped to about 185BHP...and that was 'diesel bhp' .....!!

I shall be interested how you progress with your latest project.

Got to mess with the car today, popped 3L of water in the washer as bone dry, topped coolant and brake fluid.
Discovered o/s door and boot will not open, they did last Sunday, I can hear the mechanisms trying.
Messaged popped up on the dash ‘child lock service required’ seems it’s a common software issue.
Changed o/s foglight for an un-smashed one.
Still love it.

Loving the OP’s T5. I also came from an Alfa Romeo. In my case a GT, which served me faithfully for 5+ years as a DD but needed a rest.

So I bought a C30 T5 on the strength of a bucket list engine alone. And am beginning to love it. 1 owner and 60k Fantastically comfortable, quick enough and a lively place to sit. A car without 100’s of unnecessary buttons everywhere! There really is a bit of Scandi minimalism about it that really works.

I’d like to do a gentle Polestar upgrade, if I could find a dealer going it for a bit less than the rrp of £750+. I’ve got a set of Eibachs to go on as it does sit a bit high. But not much else needed.

But overall, I’ve been beguiled by a Volvo. Never thought I’d say that having come from an Alfa!

Still have my GT, rebuilt lots of the engine after the engine blew on the M6.
I know what you mean about the minimal look, it pleases me.

Slight thread drift but this was mine the day it went to its new home. One of the best and reliable cars I have ever run. Sold with a healthy 140k miles on it

With This:

If only the C30 Had the OP's 5 cylinder T5 engine, then I might be tempted to do another track day at Croft...!!

Bit of a faff getting it out and I am sure getting it back in.
Freshly recovered roof lining is ready at last, it will look much better than the previous owners attempt.

Thought I would do an update...
Not used the S40 since March, chucked originally into the lockup to do the headlining, bought a punto 1.9 (epic car) while the S40 was off the road, then sold the Punto and got an xc70, all the while ignoring the S40.
Late November I thought to myself I will sell the xc and use the S40, serviced it, checked everything and booked an MOT, set off, huge red warning light came up, power system control, stop engine, rang mot man to cancel, multimeter showed had battery, put a new one in, clear dash.
Set off again for an MOT, just before I reached it the warning came back, then went out, anyway it stayed off and the car passed.
Warning came back on the way home, parked on the drive, got my Alfa out of the lockup, multimeter back out, pretty sure it's the alternator and regulator, great fun at -4 outside on the drive removing it, had it rebuilt with new everything, put it all back together, runs beautifully and sounds sweeter... For about 10 minutes, another warning message, reduced performance, stop engine, the engine did that on it's own.
Feeling pretty dejected now, really fed up.
Yesterday morning I went through everywhere I worked on for the alternator, nothing wrong or misconected, tried to start it, now running perfectly.
All I can think off stage a the car has many, many sensors, I had cleaned up the throttle body, heavily carboned, maybe the car just needed time to understand.
Went for a spirited short drive, all is good.
Just back in from a long very spirited drive, I'm happy with it now.
Alfa is back in the lockup.

Highly likely it could be related to the well known, well covered CEM related issues. Be it the multiplugs or it's filled with water from a leaky windscreen and / or an errant sunroof drain plug at the base of the NSF pillar. Or all of the above.

The reason I decided to do the headlining is because the carpets were utterly soaked... Due to a blocked sunroof drain.
The last job before the headlining went back in was a visit to my friends and his long nozzle airline to clear the drains.
Last job before the carpet went back in was complete cem strip, replaced one catch and did everything with electrical cleaner.
