Early life wheel bearing failure?
Discussion
front wheel bearing failed again on the mrs 2007 3.0 a6 allroad, It had only been changed 19 months, 12000 miles previously. I think that was the first time they had been changed in 110000 miles, as the car has extensive service records and wheel bearings were never mentioned.
The brakes arent binding at all so the brakes shouldnt have cooked it, the brakes are in great condition we had them done at the same time.
Is there anything else to check for before replacing that might have shortened the life, or was it just a gammy bearing? Both were changed at the same time but only the drivers one has failed now.
The car is mostly used for short journeys but has never sat parked for more than a few days as she worked right through the pandemic so its not like it was parked up for months.
The one thing out of the ordinary was on our last holiday before covid we opened up the taps a bit in germany, It has a stage 2 tune and a couple of small mods and we got carried away and taken it to 165 on 2 occasions an the a5 for a couple of miles which I think is a bit more than the standard car can manage, did that maybe shorten the life of them?
I have never heard of wheel bearings fail so quickly, its just a bit weird, its droning really badly and you can feel the notching when you spin the wheel by hand.
