Our daughter has one of those crap child trust fund things given out by Gordon brown. I think it is ‘care of’ my wife’s name.

I want to transfer it to vanguard junior isa but they don’t accept transfers from ctf so first I have to transfer it to junior cash isa with eg ns&i then after that vanguard will accept transfer to this platform.

So question : can I open the jisa for my daughter, (so I guess will have care of me) but then will be wanting to transfer from the ctf which has my wife’s name. So will that fk it up / prevent transfer. Anyone know?

I transferred my son's CTF from a paper broker to a junior ISA at Hargreaves Lansdown.

Once there or should be easy enough to transfer to any junior ISA provider you want

I did this recently, was a bit of a faff and took a couple of months. Your Mrs just just needs to sign the relevant mandate allowing transfer of the funds.

Similar scenario. My daughter had a stocks and shares CTF with HSBC in my wife's name. We called HSBC and transferred it into my name and then transferred the CTF from HSBC to Intelligent Money. It's a bit of a faff but most things to do with finances are. The HSBC investment did poorly. I've not got the figures to hand but theIntelligent Money JISA has done very well - mainly thanks to PHR and low fees. Not an advertisement, just a happy shopper smile

I have to chuckle when people complain about receiving crappy free money. Surely poor performance is down to the investment not being monitored, and we probably know where the buck stops with that.

Another option for transferring a CTF to a JISA is to open a Coventry BS cash JISA (2.95%). Depending on the age of your child and any other financial plans you have in place, you may then choose to transfer out again in to a S&S JISA. Changing the responsible parent has never been an issue when we have transferred so, hopefully that would not add any complexity.

It’s also down to the barriers they created eg the fact I (still) can’t transfer it to vanguard. The fact that originally (for many years - until 2015) you weren’t allowed to transfer out to other types of investment. You were stuck with st rates and high charges. So it’s not only the parent not looking at it. So no wonder no one added anything to the govt contribution, it wasn’t worth it. Now, yes, I’m finally getting off my arse to move it so I can add to it when it’s somewhere more suitable

Thankyou for the 2nd part of your message
