Help with ethernet over power line adaptors or alternatives
Discussion
Hi,
Are there any alternatives to power line adaptors to get ethernet to Humax freeview box.
Family member has this today, and it generally works ok, but every now and then the network connection is lost. All the lights remain green even when network lost on Humax. Restarting them all (3 ) does get them back on line, but this is frustrating.
My only suggestion is to buy 3 new more expensive power line adaptors and try again (if so any recommendations for more tolerant models?)
Or - are there any other options to consider, like do any of the mesh wifi boxes present an ethernet port that is backhauled over the mesh wifi network ?
Thanks

I also found the powerlines a bit flakey so switched to a mesh system, I went for the TP-Link Deco ones, they have a couple of ethernet ports in the back so I guess you can plug your Humax box into that but I haven't tried out the ethernet ports on mine.

Firstly, the cheapest option - check if there's a firmware update for the power line kit.
Alternatively, some mesh kit presents an ethernet port, for exampleI think some of the TP-link stuff does.
Finally, when I bought my Humax, there was the option of a USB network adapter, so depending on model that may be worth investigating.

Thanks all - some options there on mesh though I always thought the ethernet was to hardwire these back to the router.
Xeny - thank you, I didn't even know a USB dongle was an option for these boxes. I need to double check their model and confirm but this might just be the simplest fix.

I bought one of these to use with a BT Youview box that requires an Ethernet connection. It works brilliantly and is much more reliable than the BT power line adaptors I was using previously - they kept dropping the connection. The Vonets has been rock solid.

How did I not know that such a thing existed? Planning to buy a new TV and move the old one and a couple of ethernet-only ancillaries to another room where I thought I would have to use powerline adaptors.I bought one of these to use with a BT Youview box that requires an Ethernet connection. Just bought the Vonets bridge and tested it. Easy to set up and worked perfectly. I'll try a cheap network switch to save having to swap the cable between devices.
Thank you.
