brake pad rattle
Discussion
Changed the front discs & pads last week. Everything fine except I have some 'pad rattle' on the ns. I have removed and re-fitted the discs/pads, cleaned down and applied fresh copper grease to the vital areas but still have some rattle.
Is this normal? and will it go away as the brakes bed-in. Braking performance is unaffected (and a great improvement over the old discs/pads). The noise is driving me mad......
Thanks
Darren

I've had another look - I don't recall removing the spring in the first place - on closer inspection the spring looks OK but is not in contact with the back of the pad (on either side).
Should the spring be tight against the back of the outside pad? If so, something is amiss... I wonder if someone replaced the spring the wrong way around on previous pad change??
Anyone have any pics to compare??
Thanks
Darren

I have seen this problem before (most notably on a Merc belonging to my mate that was only ever serviced at Merc garages) people do sometimes put the springs back wrong, causing rattle.. My advice just taje it out and try it a different way round see which fits best.. If only one side is rattling then maybe the other side is correct, compare the 2.....
I've had another look - spring only goes on one way really and looks the same as the photo in the S bible.
If I rotate the wheel when the car is jacked up there is definately some 'run-out' on the disc knocking the pads once per revolution - may try and swap discs to see if there is a difference....
